Cool Android Contact system - About time!

Hi, I just got my HTC Incredible S yesterday, so far I'm quite happy with it, but there is a few issues I want to address. To start off, I'm going to talk about the contact system, as I know many of you must have issues with it.

Here is my suggestions for improvement:

First off all, you should be able to connect/link not only Facebook and Gmail accounts, making it possible to connect them with a sim number is crucial in my opinion, why? Well it is simple, not all my friends share their phone numbers on fb/gm, not all of them have up to date or even correct numbers, so for all intensive purposes I should be able to link them with a sim contact and apply that specific phone number which I entered manually to all the linked contacts. (Maybe not the best way to put it, but you get the idea)

Second of all, the grouping system should work with facebook accounts aswell as sim contacts, not only gmail.

Third of all, if I so happen to choose not to use gmail, or not to use the gmail contact system, I should be able to, make it easy to hook my phone to the computer and make me able to sort my contacts out from there.

And last but not least, make it all simple, I should be able to edit a contact and from there link it to anyone, any sim, any gmail. For example, I have at the moment two facebook contacts, which are the same person, but they show up as two seperates(dunno why, registered with different emails or something), point being, its impossible to link them, or in any case its not as obvious and simple as it should and could be.

SIM enabled phones can't do this? I've had two CDMA Androids so far and both could manually assign a match between facebook profile and a stored contact.

Well, I cannot figure it out if so, and if you ask me I should be able to override the facebook information at will, for example if there is no phone number or that the current one is wrong.

But if you know how to link sim contacts with facebook contacts, then please do tell

I don't know for sure, but I will take a stab at it:

Open your contact with whatever built in app you have. Some UIs (HTC Sense and I think Moto Blur, not sure about vanilla Android and TouchWiz) have a link icon in the upper right. You can then select what you want to link that contact with, including Facebook.

The other option may be to hit the menu button and a link option may become available there. You may also have to start editing the contact before the link option becomes available.

The contacts app on the incredible is simply called "contacts". Here is what options I have and what i've tried:

1. Clicked on the sim contact wich I want to link to a FB contact, from here I get the option to call/sms, shoose ringtone, block, edit and "standard execution" So first off, I press options, from here I can edit, send contact, delete and setup quick call. So lets try to edit it from here? Well, I can only edit nameand number, thats it, same goes if I press edit at the contact information.

2. There is no linked sign in the right corner, anywhere, however if I open a contact that is already linked, it does appear. (It might not be because its linked, it could just be because its a facebook/google account, in any case it does not show up in sim contacts) Further more, as stated I could not enter any linked menu what so ever on the sim contact, however if I press the link icon on other contacts, you get some options. I can remove the current links, and add new ones, I tried adding a random facebook account, this worked perfectly, however there is an option that says "add from all contacts", however this list is empty, not showing any of the sim contacts either. (Yes, my settings is showing sim cards normally)

If it is possible to link sim/fb contacts, I should have it done by now... :P

Ok, so now I got them linked. I can't really understand why, but I had to import the sim contacts on to the phone in order to do it. But now I have another problem yet to be solved, the primary number in my linked contact(facebook/google/phone all linked) is not what I wish it to be, its taking the number from the facebook account, and this is not the right one, how do I make the phone contact number primary?

Even if it was possible to link "sim" contacts with fb contacts, this should be simpler, and changing the primary one should be as easy as eating pie? Something needs to be done.

I see. The phone just doesn't have access to link to numbers on the SIM card.

As for setting primary number, it happens in the order you link them. So if you clicked Facebook profile and then linked it to a contact, the Facebook number should be primary. That is, if it works the same for you.

Edit: In the View Contact, can you long press the number you want to be primary and set it it as primary? I can do that with my phone, so I hope you can, too.

Well thats what I figured aswell, so I removed all the links on my friend, put the contacts together again starting with the sim contact, it still took the fb one as primary. The sim number didnt even show on the main contact information screen actually, and when I loong pressed the primary number, all I could do was to edit it, not switch it with the pervious sim number(now its on my phone).

But then I came across another problem, I tried to group my contacts, this did not work with facebook contacts at all, but the contact I just merged with the contact I imported from the sim card however, shows up, alone :P

Furthermore it is not possible to export the facebook accounts to my phone, I can only export them to sim, then I have to import it to my phone, link them again manually, and then they will show up in the "add people" in the group section.

This is horrible :P

PS: I love my new phone, but there is a few things...

Almost all of the features you are asking for already exist in my phone, except the SIM contacts part. Seriously, I am even surprised people still continue to even use SIM contacts. They're pointless when you have your contacts on Gmail already.

I have Facebook, Twitter and Gmail contacts linked into one per person, and the primary number set as I want it.
