Back up from hard reset

Hi, I was wondering if there is a way to restore SMS messages after hard reseting or maybe backing it up before. or is there another way to receive MMS messages without factory reset? i know this is kind of a noob question so please forgive me.

Sms backup should work. Download sms backup from the market, then backup, then wipe

If you don't mind spending a couple $$ then Backup to Gmail works for mms messages too (as well as sms and call logs)
