Bluetooth is hardly dead. It's just that more advanced versions of Bluetooth are mostly unused by a large portion of devices. Like my Evo 3D has Bluetooth 3.0. Not that it matters, because everything else I have that connects to it via Bluetooth is 2.0, or whatever was the latest before 3.0.
And it's not like I'm going to get a new car or replace my headphones in the near future just so I can get Bluetooth 3.0 or 4.0.
It's a lot like the newer versions of USB, or wifi conventions. Yeah, newer is nicer, but mostly useless until most of the stuff you use on a daily basis catches up. And that may not be for a few more years, especially when factoring in cars.
