I'm debating on whether I should stay with Verizon or switch to Sprint. I live down in New Orleans, where they don't officially have 4G, but have a few towers around downtown, not far from my house.
I am looking at the Galaxy Nexus if I stay or the Galaxy S2 if I go to Sprint. I heard the Galaxy Nexus might come to sprint too, but I'm not sure when it might be.
I'm certain some people here know much more about it than me. I like to tether some at work and I'm locked into unlimited, but Sprint would save me $30-40 a month. Is Verizon worth the difference?
I'm a former VZW customer that switched to Sprint. In the first few months, Sprint was kinda spotty for me. Ever since, I've had nothing but rock solid coverage from Sprint. Most of the time, I'm in 4G, if I ever need it. But 3G speeds have been picking up. And I absolutely love my Evo 3D. So, for me, VZW was not worth the difference.
Yes with tiered data spreading like the plague i would stay where you are. Chances are once you drop your grandfathered unlimited data with the provider you use you will regret it later on down the road. Especially as data continues to evolve over the years. 4G is blazing fast and you will find yourself using more data because of it (no more load times in most cases). Imagine a few more years down the road when 5G, 8G etc come out and your paying 30 bucks for 2 to 4 gigs. =/
I am leaving Verizon. My contract runs out this month and I am gone. I bought a Samsung Exhibit 2 and am using it on a pre paid plan on T-Mo and could not be happier. T-Mo service is great in Hawaii (where I live) and I love the wifi calling option. The Ex2 is a great phone...very smooth scrolling, nice size screen (3.7 to 4" is perfect), awesome battery life (again don't overload your phone with apps), gtalk video chat, 4g (and T-Mo's HSPA+ is fast). I rooted it and took out all the bloatware. Don't miss Verizon at all (oh yeah and $50 a month unlimited inc. tax).
If I were you I would try to find someone with Sprint (4g if possible) and have them come to your house to see if they get 4G there and how the service is there. I personally think the VZW network is much better compared to my friends who have Sprint but for you it could be different.

Don't want to start any wars, but I totally disagree. Verizon coverage sucks anywhere in NY, especially on LI. AT&T gives me full bars no matter where I am, especially NYC.
If i were you, i'd stick to verizon as their LTE speeds are unrivaled unless you're in an area where Tmobile HSDPA 42+ is active or ATT has LTE (you know.. those 6 cities). Wimax usually tops off around 8-11 mbps in my area but hovers around 2-4mbps usually.
As another user said, get another person with a Sprint 4g phone and test their speed and connectivity in your house and where you would go usually during the day. After that, make your decision.
-- I live in Sac, CA where Tmobila has HDSPA 42+/ Verizon 4g LTE/ Sprint Wimax - Tmobile + verizon was neck to neck in speeds.

If there is ever a "5G" standard it will take at least a decade before we see any of it. We haven't even reached 4G yet.
