Has anybody here ever been locked out of the Android Market?
I'm trying to get into it right now and I keep getting this error:
"There was a network error while trying to sign in to *my gmail account*. Retry now or press the Back button to cancel."
Everything else on my phone is working fine.. no issues. But for some reason Market is not working at all. Is anybody else having a problem like this? Any suggestions?

I had that problem once, I rebooted my device and it was fine. The problem was the G1 thought it had a data connection, but it didnt. A quirky fault that a reboot solved, there may be a more elegant solution to this, but it doesnt harm rebooting the phone once in a while anyway.
Hi, I have this problem as well, and a reboot didn't help...can anyone provide guidance or advice please? Thank you in advance!
You have said you rebooted ( that is turning the phone off and back on is a reboot)
What you should try is to go into your setting and do a Factory Reset ...
You might want to use a good backup app like "MyBackup Pro" to backup all data, settings and apps ...
If the factory reset doesnt work then you have a bad phone or your Carrier account is not properly activated .... Contact them and check that your account and sim and all are in proper order for Data Connections ....
I was having this problem and it turned out the problem was that my gmail app was linked to 2 different gmail accounts. I removed the 2nd and was again able to use the market.

Not that, you can absolutely access the market on WiFi. In fact, that's the better way to download apps, since it's generally a faster connection. Some apps are big enough that they actually require you to be n WiFi to download them.

I have 2 different GMail accounts on my phone, and it's never caused a problem for me.
Another thing to try would be to delete the cache for the market. Settings>Applications>Manage applications>Market, then select Clear Cache.
I had same problem for two weeks, it Started when i cleared the cache memories manually. So DO NOT clear ur chaches manually.
Solution:I factory reseted phone and did not download any additional GPRS settings from my service provider, started creating gmail and other accounts with my default GPRS Settings, IT WORKED for me.
I Actually Factory RESETED my phone twice before i got all my accounts and market to get working again.
I have a Desire, running 2.2. I am an anti Apple man and try to promote my friends to the idea that Android is better than Apple at every chance I get. I also own a Xoom and most of my accounts are Google.... (Gmail, G+, buzz, etc). I would like to continue promoting Android but I am noticing a few cracks (not necessarily small ones either) appearing, that are not being fixed in a timely fashion.
The network issue that I am experiencing with the Android Market has been around as far as I can tell for years at this stage.... Come on Google SORT IT OUT, so I can continue telling my friends that Google is the best.
The Problem:
When I try to open the Market App the following error msg shows.
"A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen"
Retry will just loop back to the same msg
Cancel exits the app.
Notes:
1. My internet connection works fine as does the refresh on my news, Gmail, FB, twitter, G+ apps etc.
2. The Market app used to work on my phone, one day (ages ago now) it just stopped.
3. I have tried logging on to the Market online & sending an app to the phone. (This also does not work)
4. I can not install any new apps to help fix the problem as the market doesn't work. (You would be surprised at how many forum responses I read thru that didn't understand this point)
Solutions:
1. I have tried to reboot the phone, with the whole sim & memory card out for 10mins thing - No luck.
2. I have tried undoing all updates for the market - No luck.
3. I reset the phone to factory settings - This worked but was a temporary solution as the problem reoccurred several weeks later. I have no intention of factory resetting my phone every few weeks.
Has anybody out there got a solution to this or a link to some Android developers that can actually flag this issue with Android so a permanent fix can be released?

I've had exactly the same issue - I was connected through wifi at the time. Tried switching off wifi and connecting through Orange 3G - this worked for about 5 minutes, then the error message came back. I disabled both connections, restarted the phone, waited about 5 minutes, then connected to the wireless network again, and all was fine. Not sure if this is a fix, or whether it was just a local issue, but i was connected to the same wireless connection on a laptop and that was working fine.
This may be the issue with the date and time set on the phone. Verify the date and time of the android phone. For me the date was set wrong. After I set it to the current time, it worked fine.
