Default What is a thread prefix and why is apparently only a requirement on SOME questions?

I'm not exactly a stranger to participating in forums. But I currently am not being allowed to post a Q in the specific forum designed for my device because it keeps stating I must enter a thread prefix.

It would be very nice if there were some type of choice or explanation of precisely what is preventing my post from going through.

I'm having enough of a challenge adjusting to the vagaries and difficulty of Android OS itself without this forum design throwing up more roadblocks. Is EVERYTHING associated with Android just this needlessly dense? Is it only for super computer geeks or the cognoscenti?

Right now that's the impressions I'm getting. I've NEVER encountered problems posting on any other of the multitudinous forums I've been in. I'm not exaggerating.

Hi Buttonsc!

I'm assuming you're trying to post a question in the A100 device forum. Our newer device forums (like the A100), usually has one main section for General talk, Support, Tips and Accessory threads. They also have one sub category for questions regarding root. So technically you have two sections to post threads.

Some of the older forums have 4 or more sub forums (categories) which includes one for general talk and other sub categories for support, tips, etc. In these older forums, a pre-fix is not required but at the same time it gets pretty difficult sorting through threads especially if it's a popular device.

Pre-fixing actually helps condense these sub categories into two main categories found in the new device forums. It was actually designed to make going through the forums a lot easier. I think of it like an excel spreadsheet where you can auto filter through data and filter out information you don't need.

It takes time to get used to because I don't think most forums are set up this way but I hope you see the benefit for you and other members of our community.

If you have suggestions, we are open to hearing them.

Edit: Darn! I noticed you posted there before...so you don't need the link to that section.

Then enter a thread prefix. At the top of the "Post New Thread" page, there will be a place for the title of your thread. Just like every other forum out there. Immediately left of that is a drop down menu for you to select a prefix. Choose the most appropriate one. If you're not sure, use "General" and if the mods feel it's out of place, they'll edit it for you. vBulletin is the forum software powering most of the forums I frequent and it's pretty simple to use.

So, let me get this straight. When I went to the Acet A100 section there were two areas and I PURPOSELY did NOT click on the section for Root. So I assumed I was asking my Q in the correct area.

But that's not sufficient somehow?

So, what do I put in the place where it wants a prefix ? And is it sufficient to just type it or do I have to select of from some type of menu.

Please re-read my post directly above yours. Immediately to the left of where you type in the title of your thread, there is a drop down box. Choose the option that is most applicable to whatever you are posting. If you've ****ed up your phone and need help, that's "Support". If you have a generic question or thought about your device, that's "General". If you found out something cool and would like to share it, that's "Tips". If you want to know about a GPS mounting bracket or a case or headphones or etc, that's "Accessory".

Thats definitely the right place. That section will ask for a prefix. If its a question about something that's wrong with your tablet, then choose support as the prefix from the drop down menu.
