Question Message history belonging to a contact disappears when contact's number is changed

Hi, two days ago one of my contacts suddenly stopped receiving text messages from me. I looked into the problem and discovered that either Android itself or some app had altered my contact and added an invalid phone number that all my messages are getting sent to. When I removed the number from my contact, the entire message archive for this person goes with it. When I send a new message, a new message archive gets started for this person. The old one doesn't appear until I add the invalid number back to my contact. Unfortunately, when I do that, messages I send get sent to the invalid number regardless. Somehow, the entire message history for this contact is now under ownership of this invalid number, not the contact itself. How can I rectify this situation???

*Additional info: Basically, to clarify and summarise, the message history for one of my contacts somehow got associated with another number (which is invalid) but is under the same contact. When I remove that number, the message history stays with the invalid number and becomes dissociated with the contact. When I send them text messages or when they send me messages, a new history is started for this contact that isn't part of their message history. I don't know how this happened. I want to put things back to the way they were before. I want the message history for this contact to become reassociated with them again so I can delete this invalid number once and for all. Messages that I send to this contact automatically go to the invalid number even though it's not the default number for the contact. My contact's phone number starts with the country code +47 and has 8 digits. The same number with a +1 got added to the contact. So now the contact has two numbers, one is the real number, the other looks like: +1-47X-XXX-XXXX. I never get a message that message delivery failed when I accidently send messages to this number because the number is probably valid in the country with country code +1 (USA/Canada). Fortunately for me, I don't imagine the person on the other end can read Norwegian. I can't figure out how to fix this. Can anyone help???

What phone do you have? Is it the Samsung Galaxy S?

With my Samsung Epic, there was a SMS bug where it would drop the area code of a recipient and make SMS impossible. Fortunately that was in 2.2 only and was fixed in 2.3.
