So my fiance's droid 1 is just about on it's last legs, the radio is dying for any kind of streaming signal and she depends on that thing for music. She's bugging me to take her out for a new phone and I am honestly not sure what she should get at this point. She bought the droid 1 mostly for the keyboard, and would like another keyboard android phone. As far as I know, the D3 is the only choice and I'm hesitant to let her get a phone that's already half a year or more old. She is neither a tinkerer or a poweruser, but she gets annoyed with phone lag and data connectivity issues. I'd like her to wait for the D4, but that doesn't appear to be an option. Rezound aside (thats what I have and what I would suggest to her), does anyone have any other suggestions on phones through VZ for her needs?
If she really isn't a power user or tinkerer and doesn't care about the latest and greatest, the D3 is a really nice phone. I love mine...no lag, no complaints. I am not at all worried about it having been end of life'd already, it will be fine for a few years still.
You may actually have trouble finding one though, they have heavily discounted it and may or may not have any left at the store. They may have to order it online for you (if you go to the store, or you should be able to that too). When my sister got hers they had none in-store.

I updated my wife's OG Droid in November. She like the size of the phone, didn't want it larger like the DX. She really wanted a keyboard as well. Anyway, I showed her the HTC Rhyme (a pink chick phone) and she loves it. It comes with a multimedia dock, and a Charm. The charm is her favorite
feature. It is an LED notification dongle that clips to her purse strap. That way when she gets a phone call and her phone is buried in her purse, she can see the led light up and follow the cord into the abyss and retrieve her phone.

Clementine, how has your overall data connectivity been? Has the phone stayed responsive over the time you've had it? Do you do any kind of regular maintenance on it?
Pupkact, I was thinking the same for my girl, but she's not really into pink/purple girly stuff

If she isn't into the girly thing, then I would stick with the Droids. I had an OG Droid and a D2 and was happy with both.
I'm not sure about all the keyboard sliders out there, but I do know that the D2 and up had MotoBlur on them, so they may not be familiar to her as the D1 was pure Android. That being said, my wife adapted to Sense pretty easily, so it probably won't be a problem.
I would wait for the D4 as it should be out in a few weeks and it at least has 4G. But you probably couldn't go wrong with the D3 as there was a price drop this week so you could walk out of the store for under
$100.

Sadly, waiting for the D4 to drop is not an option, as much as I'd like it to be. She's going nuts without access to pandora. I think she would like sense (more then motoblur from what i've seen of it) if she gave it a chance...but nothing on VZ with sense and keyboard..ugh. Oh well, hopefully I can get my hands on a D3 on the cheap then...
I have had zero issues with mine. Doesn't drop anything, it has been rock solid since the day I got it. I am not rooted and do no maintenance really, every now and again I shut it down but just because that's what I do. Really, it is very quick and responsive for what I do with it...running apps, widgets, youtube, listening to tunes etc., no tethering or anything like that. That's why I suggested it for her

I've had plenty of Moto's oever the years, they are rock solid. With the VZW price drop, you could check Amazon. When VZW dropped the Droid X2 to $99, I was able to get it on Amazon for $ 0.01, yes let me retype that $0.01, and in English 1 cent. This phone was for my 17 yr old son and he loves it. Hopefully you can find a deal like that for your D3
Sadly, it looks like she is leaning towards to Iphone 4s, definitely not my first choice for her, but I understand it's appeal to her. It's a nontechnical smartphone for nontechnical people.

To each there own... Bring her to a Verizon store and let her play with some HTC Sense, Droid 3 MotoBlur, and iWhatever (just kidding ) and see what appeals to her. I hate to see someone abandon Android, but if that is what she wants. Just keep in mind that if she purchased apps for Android, she will have to repurchase them for a non Android phone.
