Got a Galaxy Note, coming back to Android - tips/help/advice needed
I am currently an iPhone 4 user and have got a Galaxy Note. I used to have the original G1 back in the day, but stopped using it because of poor battery life and user experience. Anyway, I'm currently waiting for my microsim adaptor to arrive, so that I can use my normal number in the Note. So I won't be switching phones until at least mid/late next week. In the mean time, I have some questions:
If I use another sim card in the Note for the next few days, and download any apps, will I have any problems using the apps again when I put my main sim in?
What's the best way for me to take my contacts from my iPhone to the Note? I have all my contacts saved in the Apple Address Book app on my computer if that helps?
I logged into the Android Market on a web browser, and managed to get to the 'My Library' section. I can see all the apps I downloaded on my G1, but whenever I click on them, the text appears in a foreign language (maybe French).
I cannot see the Pac-Man game I downloaded on my G1 in My Library, has it been removed from the market or something? I remember it being free for a limited period when the G1 launched.
In My Library, all the apps have an 'installed' label. However, I no longer have the G1 any more. Does this mean that the apps are associated with the old phone?
I tried using the Android keyboard to send a message, and it seems awful having been using the iPhone one for so long. I found the iTap keyboard on the Android Market. Has anyone used it, or an app like it? Wondering if it's worth spending money on.
Address Book, select all, File, Export to vCard (vcf file).
Goto your Gmail account on the web (create one if you have to). Select Contacts, then the tool for more actions, then import - browse to your Mac vcf file with the Google web tool for that.
Now back to Address Book, Preferences, sync with Google, done.
The vcf transfer will force Google to preserve your groups and then the syncing from there should make it so you don't have to think about it again.
Hope this helps!
PS if you liked the Apple keyboard, I think that you'll love Flex T9. And personally, I find SwiftKey X even better.
Flex T9 will give you an appearance you may relate to, is great for tapping or swiping and even has a scribble mode. It also uses Dragon for speech recognition.

I'm in the US, and with T-Mobile. ATT will be getting theirs in Feb. I'm gonna see if I can find one online.
Does it have ICS yet?
I bought my white galaxy note from Negri Electronics. They are an awesome company to deal with in the US. You can also buy them on Amazon, but you should expect to pay between $600-$800 for it.

Do you have T-Mobile? If yes, how well does it work? 4G?

Thanks for the tips, most appreciated. You mentioned it'll preserve my groups, which I'm really keen on. One thing I am aware that Apple (or Google, from the time of G1) wasn't too hot on is group text messaging. On an iPhone, you still cannot select the group and send a message to everyone on it without using a third party app (or selecting each user one by one). Has this been resolved on Android? E.g. I play football, and have a group specifically created for it so that I can send updates on missing players, time changes etc. On my iPhone, I have to use an app called Group Text, despite the group already existing in contacts. I'm pretty sure I recall having to do the one-by-one thing on my G1 back in the day. Hopefully this is fixed...?
