Gladly came to Android from ios so not back that way. My wife has windows phone 7 and it is very nice and smooth so would certainly go in that direction.
I'm not sure I could pick one. I think most of the other OSs would end up frustrating me so much I wouldn't be able to use them. If I had to have a smartphone, but no Android, I guess I would go with iOS. I still think it would frustrate me as much as the others, but at least I could do something with it.
I voted WP7. I'm a fan of the artsy style they used for it, and it's performance in what I've seen and read. Unfortunately I've never used it. I have used iOS before, and while I thought it was very smooth and polished, something about it just didn't seem to click with me, and I want more choice than 3 almost visually identical handsets.
[EDIT]
Oh, and I like the way WP7 lets you scroll sideways through options, such as changing the calender between month, week, and day etc, instead of having to bring up a menu to do this on Android or iOS

Came from ios back in the day. Had a 3gs. Switched to android and haven't looked back. I wouldn't want to switch but if I had to, I would probably go back to ios.

You left out WebOS, the Palm/HP OS. While it's a dead OS, or at least comatose, it may be a good fallback from Android. I voted iOS, but I wouldn't be too happy about it. I lusted over the iPhone when it first came out, but didn't want to switch to AT&T. Thank goodness Android exploded before iOS came to Verizon.
I quite like BB. Though I had a hissy fit over a hardware failure & jumped to Android, I still quite like the way BB is business like but evolving towards the media & apps market. But really, Android has much more to offer than BB, so when my Defy needed repair, was keen to keep it.
Actually I don't think iOS devices are that bad, but we make a lifestyle choice & frankly, I find the whole marketing of Apple very smug & patronising. Also overpriced.
Had many early windows phones, they were Orange SPV's, typically made by HTC. OS was very basic, hardware quite flimsy. I believe win phones have improved since then.

Loved having real Linux in my pocket with my N900. But Maemo/Meego are toast. Symbian has gotten a death sentence and sucks anyway. Tizen and some other Liinux mobile distros are basically vaporware. WebOS is embalmed. WinPhone is a punishment not a choice. iOS is a jail sentence. Bada yada yada...
IOW right now there is no useful alternative to Android. Maybe I'd get a rotary phone.

I would be hard pressed to imagine a mobile smartphone world without Android. I would choose WP7 as there are at least hacks and mods that look cool over at XDA so I am sure a community like this would pop up for it.

Symbian always had one good thing that I've yet to see on any other mobile OS, Ovi Maps. That's the only offline mapping and navigation application that had really great detail for rural China. Google Maps would be OK, if it didn't require internet access to work and could be used offline. There are a few offline apps which use Open Streetmap, but the level of detail with this is really quite poor, certainly not suitable for navigation or finding one's way around.
Ovi Maps street maps for China is about 2GB.
Open Streetmap is about 33MB, so evidently there's not a lot of detail here, apart from main cities like Beijing and Shanghai.
