I know it CAN be done , but ANY idea on how this is done?

I know I have to be rooted , and from there somehow I go into the phones storage to recover them , but i have no idea where to begin.

I just read thru the thread you posted last month where you said you boyfriend told you this is possible. I can confirm it is not, I just tested and checked.

The storage is located at /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db if you have root explorer you can view the database. if you navagate within the database to "words" it shows all the texts you currently have check to see what the lowest numbered one is and make a note of it, now back out of the database. Then go to your messaging app and delete that text then go back to the database and look again you will see the message you deleted was also removed from the database.
