Confused HTC Desire Hd good beginner phone? Other recommendations?

Hi, I've been using a iphone 3g for the past couple of years and figure its time for a change to the green little alien. I'm with telus and can't decide which to get. Looking at the telus page with only 12 phones to choose from?
Smartphones*|* Phones & devices*|* TELUS Mobility

I'm trying to get a zero dollar phone on a 2 year contract.
The htc desire hd looks the most worthy of the zero dollar 2 year phones but I just wanna get a second opinion, any other recommendations from the telus website?

Thanks,
Phil

It's a good phone but I don't know if I'd want to be tied down to two years starring from now.

It most probably won't get ice cream sandwich. If you can, try and get the Samsung gs2, or galaxy nexus. I know they'll probably cost you more than the dhd but it'll be worth it than being lumped with gingerbread until 2014.

Don't be cheap. Get a good phone. If money is your concern, maybe a cell phone contract isn't for you.

Go for the DHD, I've had mine for 15 months now and have not been disapointed. It's going to get ICS and still recieving sense updates, so it will be another 12 months before it starts to feel dated, by then you will have rooted it anyway!!

Certain HTC models has very bad battery life. This is verified with my colleague. Can you imagine you need to charge 1-2 times A DAY?

Money isn't really a concern but I do like to save.

That can be quite common among ALL smart phones, it's not just a HTC issue.

I'll agree with that. I have the DHD and whilst it's a cracking phone, it's mid spec (maybe even low) compared to current models. Most newer phones are dual core and there look to be quad core phones announced at MWC at the end of the month. The Nexus and the S2 were mentioned earlier in the thread, I'd definitely look at getting either of those over the DHD.
