Default Need some advice ;)

My contract is up with att and I would like to get a different phone. Currently I have a blackberry torch and what I don't like about my phone is that it doesn't have a front camera. I would really like to be able to skype with my friends abroad. Would anyone here be able give an advise which phone to purchase. Thank you in advance.

I had a Torch and traded it in at Best Buy for a Motorola Atrix 2. They actually paid me in exchange for the phone. The Atrix 2 has dual processors, a much larger screen and many, many more apps. Its also very customizable. As much as I like Blackberry I couldn't be happier with my decision. Android has come a long way in a short period of time. The Atrix 2 is a very nice phone. You might not see it at the AT&T store. Check out Best Buy or get one online.

Oh and I've had excellent results with Skype. Better in fact than my computer.

Thank you! It's true I have not seen that phone in att store. I went there yesterday and spent over an hour and at the end couldn't decide on anything. My friend told me to check out different forums, so that's where I'm at now.

Any Android mid/high-end phone will give you a much better experience than a BB.

Check out some Galaxy S/S2, Atrix, etc.

I will attempt today one more time, yesterday though I almost bought the skyrocket. I definitelly want to go with a higher end, because after you get stuck in a two year contract and then all these other fun phones come out and you get outdated again... as it happened to me with my blackberry, I can't even view emails with pics just plain text, ect... I'm sooo ready for an upgrade.

Just to let everyone know that I ended up getting Samsung Skyrocket. I live in a small town and the att store that is nearby a lot of times does not have a lot to offer. My options were HTC vivid, LG (forgot the model) iphone 4s, a bunch of different kinds of blackberies, and out of all the Samsung model phones they had, the only one that had the front camera was skyrocket, they were all out of galaxy II...
So far I had this phone only a day and I love it, was able to have a video chat with my family that lives thousands of miles away, it was awesome!
I really don't know much about android phones, so I don't know the full potential of this phone, but hopefully reading this forum will help me...

Congrats, you acquired one of the nicest smartphones around.

It's a true powerhouse... You'll need time, curiosity and patience to know all it can offer you, may I say, plenty.

If you need anything, you can ask here.

Thank you so much! It has been sweet phone so far and I wonder how I ever did without it. My video that I took with blackberry looks fantastic, I can also access my kindle books. It's super fast too! I don't want to mess with it too much yet, I'm know to crash systems. So first I'll read all info about it on this forum. I do have some questions, but I will ask them on the subforum for skyrocket.

I also come from a dumbphone and it was the first thing I thought: "how could I live so long without you, galaxy?" LOL

Actually you can't mess your system without root access or something of the kind. I suggest you to dig really deep your Android, check all the menus and etc, so you know where stuff are.

Nice! Good to hear you found a phone to replace the BB. Do you live in a LTE area? That's the newest network for AY&T right?

No it doesn't look like I live in the LTE area, but I'm mostly never home and everywhere else I have LTE.

Cool. Im curious how much faster the new LTE network is v.s. regular 4G. I guess I'll find out first hand with my next phone. That won't be for a while since my Atrix is only a few months old.
