Motorola because their physical build quality is great...phones are strong, good battery life, great signal, loud speaker...wish they would just ditch blur on their devices completely, go vanilla on everything!

I was thinking the same thing cause I loved how sturdy my bionic felt, but if there is blur then I wouldn't want it!! I'm not sure which I'd really want though
Even before I got my Nexus I was a fan of Samsung phones - top to bottom. I don't really appreciate HTC phones (even though I acknowledge they have a large and loyal following) so they'd probably be last on my list.
Aside from Samsung I wouldn't mind seeing Moto build one (ISTFG they better learn how to keep the damn bootloader un-effing-locked!). I still have a nasty taste in my mouth from their bootloader policies for many of their devices AND how Sanjay Jha told the dev community and anyone wanting to modify their phone to go screw.
That said it's kinda expected as a Nexus product that the phone is completely unlockable.
My list:
1) Samsung
2) Moto (very close second - prob tie)
3) LG
4) Sony
5) HTC
I really wish Nokia didn't sell out to Microsoft b/c I think they'd have potential to be a strong Android manufacturer.
I really like the look of Samsung phones the best, and they have been fairly durable for me, but some people complain about their build quality. I do agree that Motorola's is better and with the pending acquisition of Motorola by Google, we may be seeing a Nexus device by them. Hopefully.
HTC phones look wonky to me, not a big fan of them (not just the UI). Sony.. never been a fan because of their proprietary crap. LG.. used to be crap... both Lucky and Goldstar, gotten a little better though.. still a ways to go for them
Personally has to be Samsung for me. They are brilliant with software updates, the phones are rock hard, even though they look like they are cheap plastic and flimsy. Lots of drops of my SGS2 and now my GNex onto concrete and tiles, as well as SGS2 drop tests, and Galaxy Tab drop tests confirm this too.
Moto have never sat well with me, as they are super slow with updates, the phones are a bit on the chunky side, and it seems every time a good app has bad reviews on the market, it's from a droid owner lol.
HTC comes in second for me, again, sturdy phones, loud speakers, amazing call quality, but ugly designs.
Sony lost me with the Xperia X10 and i'm never touching them again lol
LG lost me with the Optimus 2X and the 3D which were both a let down for me.

You must've missed the Fascinate... lol. But I digress...
For me, honestly, I really don't know who. The one thing, is that if it is to be a "pure" phone, as the Nexus is NOW, then the whole UI thing becomes a point not needed made. It wouldn't have Blur, or Sense, etc.
I loved how my Thunderbolt felt in my hand, good, heavy, solid. But I respect that weight isn't a good thing for everyone. I do also agree though, that as cheap as the Nexus appears to be, I've had no issues with actual build quality. Sure it could be tweaked, but I can't complain. Maybe something in-between. I can say that I would put LG towards the bottom of my list, simply because they always seem to be a half-step behind in the game. I can say there are things about most of the MFRs that I would like, all rolled into one.
Guess it'd be a HT-Samorola.

Gimme the build of Moto with the AMAZING screens from Samsung and the love that HTC puts into their phones and I would be in heaven. Honestly, if the GNex just had a slightly more sturdy build with a few metal parts and stronger plastic than It would be perfect. I really like my Gnex's build in general.

I prefer HTC for sense, but otherwise not a fan of their phones. So they are out.
LG has perhaps the best screens (Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus HD is up there too).
Moto's phones feel the best material wise, but Samsung has better ergonomics.
Samsung's internals are the best of the bunch, sans radio, which if we are talking LTE, I believe HTC has the best.
I think Samsung wins, and if they could have the Rezound's radio in the GNex, the phone would have been near perfect IMO. Too bad the radio is the most important part of the phone.
The ideal Nexus phone will have screen, camera, processor, form factor of Samsung and radio, build quality of Motorola.
I don't care much for others. Not fan of HTC Sense, bulky form factor, poor battery life, but Rezound seems to be decent on battery for the first time. LG has great IPS display, but they suck on pretty much everthing else.

Since we are deciding what manufacture we would want google to let build a Nexus, software updates do not matter, updates would be from google. This would just come down to build quality and radio.
Motorola has the best radios, and great build quality. Samsung is a cheaper plastic, though I usually love the look and their phones and the plastic doesn't bother me, but their radios inside are usually a little weaker.
HTC usually has fatter phones, sturdy build material.
I would probably choose Moto if not for the Razr and Photon, I think both phones have been ugly(personal opinion). So probably Samsung, definitely Moto if they go back to the Droid X kind of look.
Here's what I posted in a thread of a similar vein over at XDA:
I think it'd be pretty sweet if Google could shop it out piecemeal (the firmware would be a nightmare, but one can dream...), using:
Motorola's Radios (and lately with the Maxx, battery w/slim profile)
HTC's External frame and build
Samsung's Screen (please stick with the contour as well) & camera
TI's latest and greatest CPU and GPU
The Qualcomm GPS chip the N1 featured (or later edition not tied to the CPU but still as responsive- none of this multi-purpose Broadcom stuff. The GN is fine but about 1/2 as accurate as the N1 was)
Missing anything?
I should add, regarding the GPS, Samsung did opt for a better chip this time (with the GN as opposed to the OG Galaxy S), but the polling frequency and accuracy tolerances a lot lower than on other devices- to preserve battery life.

I don't see any accuracy issue on Nexus GPS. Seems pretty accurate. Also I prefer Exynos over OMAP. They both will make A15 based processor this year, Exynos 5250 and OMAP5. But I think 5250 will be more powerful.

Play around in My Tracks, or try to use it to track your jogging/running or hiking, etc. The accuracy circle expands and contracts as the system polls the chip and the chip checks the satellite signals again, resulting in sudden little blurbs where you jump suddenly 20 ft in some direction, and then until the accuracy settles back into ~5m (16ft or so) the path is all over the place. This GPS chip is great for social media check-ins and even navigation (which "snaps" you to the nearest entity in the accuracy circle ), but lackluster in actual measurement-level uses. Which is fine, but I have to admit using some of the other devices have spoiled me in terms of functionality/applicability (rather like the debates some have with the screen and the camera, somewhat ironically both of which I am happy with)

I'd have no complaints with an Exynos, but every TI I've used and played with has been pretty solid, except maybe the OG Droid, it could really bog down sometimes. But the Hummingbird and Tegra also really bogged down quite a bit as well...
ergonomically, the gnex is lacking. whoever thought it was a good idea to put the unlock button opposite of the volume rocker should be fired.
i dont care to debate about gorilla glass and oleophobic coatings and what not, i wish this phone had gorilla glass, i would feel much better about it. i HATE screen protectors, but the screen scares me so i must use them.

This is not meant to have any right answer lol I am only curious about everyone's answers.
I want to know who you would want to build the next nexus:Moto, Samsung, HTC, Apple(JK LOL), Etc.
Explain why you want that company to build it.
Jeep...that way i can physically abuse it, drop it in the snow, keep it out in the blaring sun and it will continue to work for years. oh, and the battery only needs to be replaced every 5 years...it wouldn't be very aerodynamic though.
ha, btw i do love my nexus

Motorola for the call quality and radios. Other than that I love the Samsung phone. This is my first Sammy, and the radio has been my only real disappointment.

Moto radios stand out mostly on CDMA network, especially Verizon. I think they are working closely with VZW in developing radios, getting better support from them than anyone else. But they are roughly on par with others like Samsung, HTC on GSM network.
Globally Moto's presence is tiny compared to Samsung and even HTC.
The reason why Google went with Samsung for Nexus line is huge success of Galaxy line (especially SGSII) worldwide. No other android comes even close. So I think next Nexus phone will also be made by Samsung, maybe Galaxy Nexus 2. I know some others think it will be Motorola as they are now owned by Google. But I bet on Samsung vs Moto like 80/20.

Most likely. Plus the method for picking is supposedly a bid process, and Samsung can do a lot in-house, so they will probably continue to win just from a cost standpoint...
This is a Nexus device so there are two very important things to point out. Unlockable bootloader and no skins.
With that in mind, I would have to say Motorola. Their hardware is rock solid, built like tanks, and the radios are top of the line.

The best manufacturer already makes the Nexus devices; the problem is that Google dictate the specs and Samsung are unlikely to release anything that overshadows their own Galaxy S range.
None of the Nexus phones have really impressed me, Galaxy Nexus has a nice screen but that’s all I like about it.
I prefer HTC for sense, but otherwise not a fan of their phones. So they are out.

google phone is always known for low SAR rating and user friendly shape (curved glass).
US regulation is 1.6watts per kilogram
Nexus one 0.37 head 0.74 body
Nexus S 0.58 head 0.9 body
galaxy nexus 0.63 head 0.88 body
rezound 1.25 head 1.12 body
droid razr 1.45 head 0.71 body
some manufacturers moved radio from upper part to lower part to lower sar rating on head, also developed low sar radio.
rezound and most motorola phones still uses radio on upper part and high sar rating radios.
just like Nexus one.. if HTC makes google phone, it will have low sar rating and cant say it would have better reception cuz generally, low sar is achieved by sacrificing some radio boost.
and about next google phone..
if google pick other manufacture for next google phone, i doubt it would be top of the line phone like google nexus, especially display.
samsung monopolized amoled display (like 98% of market) and it would be hard to get their best display especially after ditching them.
next choice would be ah-ips-lcd from LG (like retina) but their production is limited for their own and Iphones.
3rd option is s-lcd and its owned by samsung too and also production is limited for supplying sony and HTC.
4th option is amoled from LG, like nokia is getting from..
5th option is amoled from CMEL or ordinary LCD from various manufactuers.

My first pick would be Motorola for all the same reasons folks have already mention (solid, great radios, qualify). I still own and use my Droid X as a wifi device each day...bought it on launch day and its still going strong in perfect condition.I also own a Moto Xoom (wifi) and its been solid, too (its like a big DX, LOL, not sleek and sexy but just works great).
So, Moto gets my vote mostly due to radios/signal and build quality.
I do have the current VZW Samsung Galaxy Nexus and I love it, too. In a lot of ways, it feels like a bigger HTC Droid Eris (my first smartphone). I'm still getting to know my GNex, but its been a great device--no complains from me so far.

With Google software and Motorola hardware and unlocked bootloader, match made in heaven. Give me a Droid 4 on Sprint with AOSP ICS any day of the week. Droid RAZR for those folks who dislike HW keyboards.
Screen by Samsung
Radio by Motorola
Case by Samsung and Nokia
Hardware by Samsung and Motorola
Speakers (yes 2) by Sennheiser
Software by Google and CyanogenMod
Charging port and cable by Apple
Designed by Users in a contest and voting situation.
If there was a keyboard version available then the keyboard would come from RIM.
My pick is also Motorola for all the reasons already mentioned. My wants n needs....Motorola just does it the best for me so far. Have an HTC phone, had Samsung over the years. I had a G Nex and have a Rezound. I had a Nokia, been so long I cant remember how it really was.
I also vote for that FrankeNexus by OTD...lol.
No mention of a camera lens? The Rezound and iPhone 4 takes some real nice pics.

The camera just isn't that important to me. Blasphemy, I know.
Cameras tend to be so different from model to model that I don't really think one company has it really right yet. The Rezound and iPhone 4s have great cameras, but the next phones those companies make could be horrible. The Galaxy S had a great camera. The Nexus and the Galaxy S2, not so much.

I want the next Nexus device to include the following specs and I don't see anyone other than Samsung providing them.
2GHz+ A15 (Dual or Quad Core)
Mali-T658
2GB RAM
720p+ OLED Screen (4.3" to 4.8")
MicroSD slot
64GB internal storage
16MP+ Camera (41MP camera in the Nokia device is just silly)
1080p 60fps recording (stereo recording)
Stereo speakers (Anyone remember the i8910?)
Simalar weight, size and thinness to the Galaxy S II
2200+ mAh battery
