The "OMG I just ['got updated' OR 'updated'] to Cupcake" Thread...
Following an announcement on Twitter from T-Mobile UK, it would seem that UK G1 users are going to be getting the Android 1.5 (colloquially known as "Cupcake") update rolled out to them starting from today....
With this in mind..I present to you...
"The OFFICIAL "OMG I just got updated to Cupcake" Thread...
It's a simple concept....
When you receive the Android 1.5 update...post in this thread when you receive it...
That way..we might get an idea of how the rollout is being rolled out...
This will apply for the American G1 owners as well..once their rollout has been confirmed...
With that said....I'll await your replies....
---EDIT---
It seems that the US version is on its way out as well as the UK version....

forums-xda-developers there are a few versions, but JF is working on the last rom released as we speak. Hopefully soon.
You could install this app and have it look for you daily. I am because I'm well just kicking back until JF releases a newer version. http://www.cyrket.com/package/jfupdater.ui

Oh really? " Im running JesusFreaks Dev Phone 1 Rom "
Basically a rooted G1. Still waiting on non-rooted G1s to appear with 1.5
Its better to wait then going through all the hassle to root.
I just read a news article claiming that T-Mobile sends the update out to customers...since I use a three sim card in my phone what does this mean for me? Will i have to update manually once possible?
Standby... "T-Mobile USA will confirm details of Android 1.5 availability for our T-Mobile G1 customers in the near future."
"...near future..." could mean "in the next few hours" or weeks.
Maybe this was supposed to be for dev phones only... But why push OTA to dev phones? Or maybe it was an accidental release, and T-Mo is putting the genie back in the bottle.
OR... it's just s...l.......o............w getting out.

Why bother using twitter if it isn't going to be soon? I hate twitter... And technically that message was only on the T-mobile page and appears to be from someone else.
Hopefully it will be sooner than later.

Ok so tell me if im off or not. Fact: Some dev phone have gotten the over the air update. Fact or fiction: Someone (not a dev) with a G1, has recieved an over the air update for cupcake?
As far as I recall, flash was not in the cupcake branch, but may be available later in 2009.
Flash is not google hence the reason it is not in the update...
*EDIT*
If you are still having issues go to the IRC channel #androidforums and I'll help you out the best I can... you may have to do an alt+w before the alt+s on your first install to cupcake as well... sometimes it hangs if you don't....

The message was from T-Mobile's twitter account. It was directed at someone else. Actually, they tweeted the same message to at least one other user...
I think people should be recieving it already. I also think we'd see a lot more stuff about it on the internet if that were the case. I dont know what's going on but Im about two weeks away of rooting. Cupcake is mine when I got the time.

I am about this weekend away from rooting. Seriously, I'm just tired of waiting for the update, and if it's out there in the wild now, I might just try my hand @ it this weekend or next.
which will end up never happening apparently.
If it takes this long for the cupcake to be served and consumed by android users, how long til the adobe flash cake?!?

rooting your phone is worth it for this.. so worth it.
first off, you can tether your phone, (streaming internet as a wi-fi connection so you can recieve internet on your laptop)
its fast, fast enough to play World of Warcraft or stream movies no problem.
Proof: and this is at a high volume time of night. during the day or really late at night i get almost 2MB download and 500KBps upload.
And the cupcake update itself is more than a reason to root. trust me. and there are easy to follow guides on the XDA developers forum.

Well I couldn't wait. Rooted my wifes G1(Couldn't test it on my own) and installed cupcake. Worked great. Now playing around with the new features. Then off to root mine and install 1.5 on mine. Love it so far. Always been afraid to play with the root thing but hey it's late and its my wifes phone. Yeah!
