Thumbs up Syncing One Google Account For A Group Of Phones

Hi,

I have one Google account I've set up & linked it/ added it to 7 handsets.

I wanted to do this so any time, I update Google contacts it updates the contacts across all 7 handsets at the same time.

Also if I send one email to the GMail all the owners of the 7 handsets can automatically see it.

Again, all users are able to easily access the documents stored in the account.

At the moment, it seems like a good system & is working great.

Initially I did have some concerns that the Google account/ phones would sync all other contacts in the phones to Google Contacts which I didnt want, but they haven't.

The only draw back I fear is if one person deletes a contact/ file via their phone it will delete it out on the Google account & the rest of the phones at the same time.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to do something like this before & if there was any easy work arounds?

Ideally, I would like to be an administrator of the online Google Account so things can only be edited/ deleted from there & if one person deletes a contact etc from their phone, it doesn't have an impact across the group.

Thanks

Based on the way email is set up, all users have the same rights as you. You'd simply have to instruct each user as to what they can, and can't, do. Maybe require them to contact you if they want to delete anything, then, if you approve, you delete it. I don't know of any way of having one email account with selected users having restricted rights. It doesn't work that way.

Thanks for taking the time out to reply Sideman, I thought that might be the case.

It's using Google sync in a slightly different way from what it was most likely intended but I think it has a lot of potential for small groups of people like of clubs, teams, companies etc

I take guess it wouldn't be possible to only push the flow of information in one direction, from the cloud down to the phones, but not back in the opposite direction? I suppose it wouldn't be technically "sync" then eh? lol

Anyone else know of any similar set-ups that could achieve the same goal with out much groundwork?

The users in the group aren't the most IT minded, one of the reasons I set it up. It took 10mins to create a Google account & 5mins to add it to the phones & now everything's syncing realtime across them which is brilliant.

If this was rolled out on a larger scale to 200 people it would be invaluable, the only thing being that 200 people can technically edit the data also.

Is it possible just to share contacts etc?

I know this isnt the same but you can send all the phones "A Group Message" a Vcard of a contact I do believe. I know with GoSMS I can choose a contact and send the info via SMS.
