Default Contacts show up for a moment but then disappear (after device was wiped)

I have backed up my device data (with "backup my droid") and wiped it.
When I restored it, and after syncing up with Google, some contacts were missing.
Since the call and messages records where restored, I could see that some numbers where not assigned to their contact record.
Now, here is the weird part - when I scroll through the call/messages records, for a moment these records *do show up*! Then, after a short delay - they go back to being unassigned!
(that is: I would scroll, see the record "home" for a moment, but then it would change back to 8390729839).

Any idea what causes it or how I can restore the missing contact people?

What phone are you on? Never heard of backup my droid so cant say how it works. What was the reason for wiping the phone? is it a rooted phone? as far as your "issue" dont know what to make of it. If your rooted it could be something in dalvic you could try to wipe dalvic and cache and see if it stops. but it may very well be somthing with the backup program you used.
