Default Damaged SD Card

My phone tells me my SD card is damaged. It is an internal card which I have never seen. The phone has never been dropped, endured excessive heat or cold and never misused in any way. How could the SD card be damaged? It also informs me that I can format it. I've tried a couple times but it makes no difference. Other than taking it to a repair place, is there anything I can do to make the SD card right again (the camera will not work without it)?

Is this an SD card that can be removed? If so I would suggest trying to format it in another device like a CPU. Otherwise if the phone can not format it you would be stuck with either having to get a warranty replacement or insurance replacement if the phone is not covered under warranty. If you are rooted with a custom recovery you may be able to try formatting the SD in recovery.

my phones just done this to me today again .. i forgotten not to take it into the chillers again ( the last 5 times I gave in and reformatted the sd cards , but I know their ois nothing wrong with it

if i drop into recovery mode i can easily access the sd card

i swap the sd card for other *working* cards and the same issue so I am now thinking its software related with the installed OS

I did a nan backup restore of the OS install ( going back to an old install all worked going back to the current install it failed )

this ruled out dysfunctional slot

so where may the issue be with the install

I am assuming because of condensation on my device at the time it marked something as bad , how would i clear the error ?

Welcome to AF MasterCATZ

I am guessing you are rooted, if so I would restore a backup and try a different rom. You may have just got a bad download or the rom could be the culprit. If this is the case a new rom should fix it.

You could also check out what other users of the rom you were trying are reporting, if they report something similar then it sounds like a rom issue, if nobody has the issue perhaps check the MD5 sum to make sure you didn't get a bad download.

The difference here is that you exposed your phone to an extreme condition, whereas I did not. It worked fine when I went to bed, when I arose the next day, it indicated the SD card was damaged. I've had the phone for about a year, and to make matters worse, it's an HTC clone.

SD cards, like any other computer device, can spontaneously become defective (or what appears to be a spontaneous defect). Follow Yeahha's advice and try to format it with a PC. Make sure to format it with FAT32. See if Windows (or whatever your machine is) detects issues with the card, too.

If it's a defective SD card, it's pretty easy/cheap to get a replacement.

No, the phone is not rooted and I have no idea how to root it. It is an HTC clone with Android 2.2 installed over MediaTek MTK6516.

The problem, beside my lack of expertise with these things, is that I don't know if the SD card is removable. When I connect it to my PC with a USB cable, all I get is the usual USB Bugging indication. I just did that again, and now it indicates the SD card has been removed. I think it's time to visit a repair shop and hope they can help.
