Default Usb problems

Can any one help me as a new user of the Samsung Galaxy, when i plug it into the Pc it is not recognised by Kies or pc, i have the newest Kies software and windows vista is upto date, ant ideas please, i have tried different usb ports but no good.
The old Monte works straight away when plugged in?

When You Connect Your Phone Does Battery Charge?
Does USB Message Pop's Up

Restart both devices (computer and phone) and try it. If not connect phone to the computer and restart.

There is another post about this in galaxy nexus form, link below. Galaxy doesn't currently support USB. If your phone is rooted, you can download stickmount app and see if that helps. Google is hopefully going to fix this soon with a software update... If stickmount doesn't work try other solution. Both require root access though...
