It would be nice to know what type of device you have. Most likely this is the result of an installed application. If you are unsure of which app that is causing this problem. Start by uninstalling the recently installed ones.

Good luck. And also, check in to your device's area of support to see if this is a known issue, and if so...has a solution been found.

Do you know how to "reset" the device? This seems like the best thing to do in this case.

As suggested, a factory data reset may be the best way to clear the issue:

Hard Reset:

  1. Press Volume-Down Key, Camera Key, then power key. hold until ‘android system recovery’ screen shows up.
  2. Press Menu Button to show to the ‘Android System Recovery Options’
  3. Highlight “wipe data/factory reset” by Using Volume Down Button
  4. to execute press the Camera key
  5. On confirmation screen, select ‘Yes — delete all user data’.
  6. Press Camera key to run factory reset.
  7. Once the Data wipe is complete.
  8. Highlight ‘Reboot System Now’.
  9. Press Camera key to Execute

Master Reset:

  1. Tap the Menu key
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Scroll to and tap Privacy
  4. Tap Factory data reset
  5. Read the message about erasing data
  6. Tap Reset phone
  7. Tap Erase everything
