Backing up phone when it no longer reads the sim card
Basically, my phone (HTC desire G7) took rather a long nosedive and broke. Both the digitiser and lcd broke. The phone switched on, vibrated, but made no bootup sounds and I couldn't enter the phone and sim unlock codes to test if anything else worked.
I debated whether to spend the £50 excess (and have the excess for the next claim go up to £75) to have it replaced, and possibly lose everything, or spend the £36 or so on replacement parts.
So I bought a new digitiser and LCD (sony sled, not the samsung amoled) and fitted them, very carefully, taking around an hour to disassemble the phone, very carefully, then another hour re-assembling, very carefully.
After re-charging the battery and switching on the phone and crossing my fingers...I get:
- no sound
- screen flickers between normal and negative image depending on pressure placed on phone
- "no SIM inserted"
- a thin band on the digitiser is non-responsive (could just be a dodgy digitiser)
I figure, that I must have not connected something properly, even though I tought I was very careful in making sure I followed on-screen instructions and labelled all the screws correctly, and VERY carefully took it apart and put it back together, etc...
So, I spend another hour or so taking it apart, checking everything was connected correctly, correct screws in correct places etc...everything seemed as it should be.
Upon switching it back, same list of issues as above
So, I surmise that the MB is damaged, whether from its attempted flight or from my fitting of the new lcd and digitiser.
The issue I have is that when I connect the phone via wifi and go to market -> My Account, it says no connection (presumably as it cannot read the SIM card?), but I can connect to the internet via the browser.
I can select either of my google accounts (gmail and googlemail), it makes no odds.
Even though I have my photos, pdf's, docs, music, films, contacts etc. saved via the sd card, I guess that when I claim my phone on the insurance, when I get a 'new' one, I will have lost most of my apps.
I have spent over £40 on music apps alone, most of which can't be moved to the sd card.
How can I back-up the phone so that when I get my replacement I can just restore it all exactly?
The phone is a HTC desire G7, non-rooted.
I have access to Win7 and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
