Hey Everyone,

I have been agonizing over what would be the best phone to get. I work as a writer for several different websites. I would prefer:

• A Good Camera
• Fast Browser & Internet
• Light
• Easy to Type On
• Easy to Root

I have been looking into getting used 4G phones such as the HTC Thunderbolt, HTC Rezound, and possibly the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

I have seen a lot of Thunderbolts on CL for a reasonable amount. Although it seems the battery life is terrible on these. Both HTC models seems to be kind of thick and heavy phones. Not something I am thrilled with, but could probably live with.

The Nexus seems like a great phone which would fit my needs. I find a new one around me for a killer deal actually. The the camera is only 5-megapixels though.

I don't know! What do the Android and Phone experts recommend?

If you are sticking to Verizon the nexus is great, megapixels aren't everything on a camera. If you aren't committed to Verizon, go with a Galaxy SII.

My experience with HTC is not good an I personally will never buy another one. Samsung phones are usually easier to root than HTC, at least in my experience. Also a downside of the thunderbolt is horrible (unbearable from what I have been told) battery life.

I did test out a Galaxy II at Sprint the other day. I really liked the phone. Light, fast, and easier to handle.

I was considering buying a SERO plan from someone and then paying the $10 extra for the 4G data capable speeds. So I would get unlimited data and other goodies for $50 a month.

I don't even have a smartphone currently though. So anything would be step-up!

I am not familiar with that plan, but I am familiar with that phone! I have had a lot of smart phones and this is the best one by far I have ever had. You will be extremely happy if that is your choice. There aren't a ton of ROMs but there are some very good ones. If you get that phone and need rooting help don't hesitate to PM me or hangout on Google+

I'd prefer to stick with VZW though. The Nexus is just a bit more than I want to spend even if I found a good deal on one.

I was considering the Rezound, but used units seem harder to come by, at least on CL.

If you are looking for a cheaper phone on Verizon, maybe a Droid X2? Should be a little easier to find one of those.

Even the Charge is a pretty good phone that should be easier to find and is 4G. Personally I would take any of those over the Rezound, but that is mostly due to my personal aversion to HTC.

For verizon the rezound is a pretty good phone imo. If you dont want to spend the $300 for the nexus i would go with it.

The droid charge is a good phone , but by todays standards is a bit out of date.

Droid 4 would be nice if you needed a physical keyboard as well.

Also the droid x2 is a great device offered by verizon

It all comes down to what you want though. If you want a solid preformer with lots of power the rezound is great.

If you want a middle of the road phone go with the charge

And if you want an all around good machine go with the droid x2

But the 2 downsides for the Rezound:

1. HTC and Sense plus it is harder to root
2. High price (if that is a factor). At the same price no one should ever choose it over a nexus. I would pay twice as much for the Galaxy Nexus as the Rezound

I found a nearly new Rezound around me that is rooted and the guy said he would put ICS on it if I wished. $350

I found a new Nexus for $430. Attract price, just more than I really want to spend.

There are plenty of Thunderbolts, Droids available used in on CL.

I found a new Rezound that was only used for 2 days for $250. What are people's thoughts?

That sounds like a great deal, just make sure it has a clean ESN or you won't be able to activate it.

I seem to be getting all sorts of awesome calls! Someone offered me a Thunderbolt that is 4 months old for $80 with screen protector, case & holster, but w/o charger.

Guy never got back to me about Rezound today. Back to looking at used Thunderbolts I guess.

The only issue I have with the Galaxy S2 is it seems like it will break if you drop it!

It won't. And it is the best phone you can buy right now. Plus if you are really worried about it you can always get a case, I really thought mine was too thin before I put a case on mine.

Based on what you said the Galaxy Nexus sounds like the best phone for you. It is, IMO, the best phone on the market currently. If you need to customize your phone it is BY FAR the best. Very easy to type on; if you like Swype, it just got added to ICS in beta, but works pretty well. Super light; only thing lackluster about it is the camera. 5 MP is lame, but it is lightning fast. If the camera point is super important to you, I'd wait for a 10/12mp phone (probably Galaxy S3), as those seem to be right around the corner.

Also, if you're one of those people who dislikes new releases of your phone coming out quickly, Nexus is probably the best way to go android wise.

Don't disagree with you BSP, but spending $400+ on a Nexus is just not really a good financial decision for me right now.

I think I will try to find a Droid Charge. Seems like a good phone for what I need.
