Firstly I would like to say thanks, I have found many useful things on this site.
I had my Samsung android stolen from my locker at work last week, since then I had been searching for a cheap used android phone and came across the LG Optimus GT540 with 8gb card, seems like an ok phone, just the resistive screen, internal memory size and the lack of a 2.2 update let it down for me. Still it really does do the job for me... honest.
Right then I mainly missed the feature of storing apps on the sd card, I found an app and instructions for rooting the phone (z4root), it ran and routed perfectly. I took the opportunity to remove some LG pre installed apps, still all good, saw there was an app called apps2sd, I couldn't find it, found another app (lnk2sd). Seemed all to easy (it is for some).
When I run lnk2sd and select an app to move it says "second partition not found". I have since found information saying I should have put a partition on the sd card..
1)Can I create a partition on the sd card now without wiping and data on the sd card (i have copied all content to the pc just in case)
2)I thought that once a phone is routed it needs that sd card in at all time to boot up a work, I did just turn my phone off, removed sd card, turned back on and everything was fine.
3)Would I be better off putting a different ROM 2.2 or 2.3 to allow this function as standard:-
[UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!
I read through this and got a little confused. I was also worried as I had read divx or xvid codecs wil not work
... I do have a few vids on the sd card.
Is anyone able to advise me, I am finding it all very interesting just wish i knew a bit more.
Now its rooted surely there must be a simple exe file out there to update to a new rom.
I am sorry as I expect similar things have been asked many times before.
