Default Should I buy a Motorola Xoom Tablet?

Hi,

I will buy my first tablet in April.

Here in Brazil, there aren't that many options and there are some national cheaper ones, but they are not that powerful when it comes to hardware. And the screen size are smaller than 10 inch, which I wouldn't like.

Right now, my choice is the Motorola Xoom, because:

• It has a 10.1 inch screen;

• It has 3G capabilities;

• It has a powerful hardware;

• It is/will be updated to Android 4.0 ICS;

• It will get cheaper with the release of newer tablets (right now it's about R$ 1,000 or US$ 500) and the price will proably get lower next month. That's what I'm waiting for.

• All in all, this one seems to be the best pick.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Sounds like you're in the same boat I am, we both want high end tablets that are affordable thanks to all the even newer ones coming out. I would advise you to take a long look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 though because I think it's performance it higher than the Xoom's and it's going as low as $300 (today on Woot).

Do you guys not have access to the Asus transformer prime yet. It's the next generation of tablet quad core and all. It came out a while ago that is why I ask, I also wonder when Asus Google tabernacle will come out because it is supposed to be cheap and with decent specs.

The Prime is the best tablet I've owned hands down. I've only used the Xoom in stores so I can't fully comment on it but it is already on ICS. If you're looking for a deal on a last generation tab, I'd highly consider the Samsung 10.1. We had it for a bit and it's a fantastic device.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is definitely the next option. But it has a couple of drawbacks though. One is that there's no HDMI out port, and second there's no MicroSD slot. Also, I find the Xoom more visually pleasing and with thinner borders.

Here, there's just the Transformer TF-101 available for now. = /

The Prime may come out soon, but it will certainly be very expensive around here. Yeah, that sucks.

I'm also looking for a cheaper tablet around May, but I would be looking at the Samsung Tab 2 10.1, or will try to save up for a Note 10.1...I realize that saving up and getting the best available at the time of buying will save a lot of frustrations down the line. You are after all looking at a 2 year window from the date of release for a device to have relevant hardware. After that time frame, you will be hitting more and more "incompatibility" or lagging on certain apps and games.

That's right.

Anyways, I think the specs present on the Xoom tablet will remain relevant for a good couple of years from now. I can't see an OS or apps demanding so much more power than they do today. Though I might be dreadfully wrong. HAHA.

But we can always sell our current tablet and invest in a newer one. Just got to buy the first one. It's like cars.
