Default Unable to receive text messages via stock messaging app for Cyanogenmod 7.1

I have a sprint HTC hero running cyanogenmod 7.1 stable. As of yesterday I have been having problems receiving text messages via the messaging app. I have had this rom for about 2 months and have never had this issue. I thought a simple reboot would fix this problem but unfortunately it didn't. I then researched and found that fixing permissions and rebooting seemed to do the trick for some. It didn't for me. I am able to receive messages through the Google voice app which has kept me sane while I try to fix this. My preferred choice would be the messasging app and it really sucks I'm not receiving messages anymore. I am open to all suggestions and thank anyone willing to help on advance.

just a thought, but you could try using another messaging app... I know many have tried Go SMS Pro, Handcent CSMS or ChompSMS

I personally have used Go SMS in the past and thought it was ok. If none of these help, then let us know and we can suggest other possibilities!

Hey I have the same problem on my htc evo 4g. I downloaded GoSMS and the Emoji plugin to try and use emoji within a certain app I like to use, mostly. It wasn't what I wanted so I uninstalled and just got Emoji Keyboard instead which works for my intended purpose. I also tried Handcent and it wasn't what I wanted either.
It was either installing and uninstalling those or perhaps when I deleted what appeared to be empty folders on my sdcard?
the previous owner didn't ever wipe the card so I went and deleted what appeared to be old app folders I no longer use. I looked in the folders and they all appeared to be empty as far as I could see... using File Manager.
Anyway the guy I had flash Cricket over looked at it and said somehow the original code was overwritten and that he didn't know how to fix it.
He went from Cyanogenmod 7-supersonic (?) to Cyanogenmod 9-"Deck" which runs ICS now.
It didn't fix the problem, still no incoming texts. ps: I have never used Google Voice. Do you think if I installed that it might show all my missing texts?
I use my mobile for work, I suppose for that reason I probably shouldn't be running custom mods and such because of instability..... ugh.
I know this thread was for the Hero but I don't want to start a new thread if one already exists for the most part. =\
anyway, thought since I knew my way around Windows for the most part I could figure out Android. whoops.
