Because the last "OMG I got cupcake" thread nosedived into chaos and madness due to misunderstandings...
I've decided to open up another thread...
This time...I'll lay out the rules PROPERLY for you all to understand...
This thread is ONLY for people who receive the OTA Android 1.5 Update. That means you get a notification on your phone saying "There is a system update available"
That means...
NO rooted updates! We don't care about you! Only the OTA updaters are welcome here...
If there's a big enough demand...I'll open a "OMG I just rooted" thread in the near future!
No Dev Phones either!!
Now that that's clear...let's lay out what the requirements are to post in this thread....
When you receive the OTA 1.5 Update, simply reply to this thread saying...
OMG I got Cupcake!!
Say whereabouts you live (Zip Code/Post Code/Town/Whatever you want to say.)
And give your opinion on what it is...
So an example post would be:
OMG I got Cupcake!
Location: Beverly Hills, 90210
First Thoughts: Not bad...still getting used to the virtual keyboard...
This thread is for everyone who is eligible to receive the OTA 1.5 update! So the US, UK and anywhere else that receives this update!

See...now was that so hard. Facts, that's what I like. If you truly get the update, all we ask for is a screenshot. If you wanna avoid the flaming and disbelief, that's all you need to do. So, this is my decree for this thread...If you post that you got the update and don't post a screenshot, your post will be deleted.....by me. I can't speak for the other mods but I won't let this thread turn into a battle.
I am a UK user and have had "cupcake" (Kernal Version 2.6.27-00392-g8312baf android-build@apa27 #72. Build CRB17) for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts:
Battery life hasn't improved in my opinion. Still get through a day (just) with my use.
Camcorder quite useful. Not bad quality but not exactly top quality either. Can't upload any videos larger than 3mb to Youtube directly.
Has useful share to Youtube, Picasa links for media.
Faster and more responsive interface. I stopped using OpenHome because the normal UI now does everything I want.
On screen keyboard works a treat. Responsive and does what it needs to quite well. Works wherever there is a field to type text.
Orientation and Animation functions added. Orientation doesn't work on home screen but does on every other screen (email, internet etc)
Better looking calendar, Gmail and Internet.
Internet seems quicker.
Widgets are great. I use a battery indicator and retro date.
App drawer and notification bar background changed.
Start up droid gone and replaced with shiny android text.
Oh and I just found a "tutorial" section in the "About" section that goes through how to use the onscreen keyboard!
Anyways that's the main things I have found (haven't played with Bluetooth although it no longer recognises my headset).
This update has brought the phone upto speed with alot of the other "Smart" phones.
Hope that wets your appetite if you haven't recieved it yet but I am glad that us Brits finally got something first (doesn't happen often you know!).

I feel rather lucky.. I've only recently bought my G1 from eBay and unlocked it. I did a factory reset, put my o2 simcard in and got the update when I connected to my WiFi. Seems that I got it on o2 before most people on t-mobile did? Not even had my phone for 2 weeks yet...
Well its friday morning and i awake and see i have a system update. Now only 3 days ago did i install the UK cupcake. So if u did that u will receive the update notice still. Only a few problems though. Myfavs, amazon store, the IM bundle, and voice search didnt return when the update finished. I am going to call tmobile later on and see what they say. Though i have a feeling i will have to wipe mu g1 and
this is Lethal reporting from the Bay Area,CA to say that I have CUPCAKE build 1.5 BUILD VERSION CRB 43 on a non-rooted G1! I repeat this is the real deal! I will provide pictures around 6:30AM PST...I was awaken to a sound on my G1!
Update: Just sent a text using the virtual keyboard! WOO!

well i hope it is not the UK update because then that would suck since i had manually updated it on my phone earlier this week.
i am too lazy to to send pics or do a screen shot, i wouldnt waste anyones time on here with a fake report.
so if anyone else got the UK version earlier in the week then gets the OTA update and doesnt have the IM, voice search, amazon and so forth let me know.
Id hate to have to wipe this thing and wait again for an OTA, or does anyone know it will still be on my phone since i updated even though i wiped my phone?
ok seems like i jumped the gun a little early.....the update i got appears to have been for the UK version and some security flaw....moderators feel free to delete all posts lol
I have the same system stats as the post directly above me. However, a few days ago I installed the UK version and today awoke to an "update available" screen. I am still missing amazonMP3, voice search, etc. I do, however, have "Google Talk" which I believe is the new IM application.

Also don't have amazon, IM, myfavs, etc. I'm guessing this is just an update to the UK version? Not sure how to tell... 1.5 2.6.27-00393-g6607056 CRB43

are you guys sure it didn't work for you.... surprisingly it worked for me just fine... here's the name of the file - "signed-kila_eu-CRB43-from-CRB17.1638e1b4"

I updated my g1 with the u.k. cupcake last night. I'm From philly and this morning at 920am. I got an update.
I also live in the philly area and received an update around 10:15am. I accepted and installed but I see no change what so ever. So i really dont know what's up with it.

the link to the update that you guys are posting is a 4.5 MB file, where the UK update I installed earlier this week is a 45 MB file. So, this 4.5 MB link must just be a patch for people with the UK update.
Once you guys get a link to a 45 MB file (probably next week?) That should be the US update and us UK users can install that just as we did the UK update.
Not to be a debbie downer or something but I called tmo and asked when the rollout will start or if it started already. They told me that the roll out was supposed to have started May 28th but due to problems they are now saying the first week of june. I think it's kinda BS though cuz of what the "Official" forum said that it would have started the end of this week.

I wouldn't worry about getting a new camera now, I'd just post everything in the email into the forum, your looking for a url with android.clients.google.com/updates/and_some_stuff.

We believe you, we just want to see if the URL everyone is waiting for is in your log. Please just post the whole thing in here (preferably as .txt attachment to avoid it being truncated. it is very long!)
