Welcome bigboidomo!

1. Rooting is to gain full write access to your phones system directories.

2. The best way to root is to install a custom ROM.

3. You should perform a Nandroid backup before installing a custom ROM which will allow you to roll back to your original ROM should you need to.

Take a look though this forum for much more info, read read and read some more so you are fully comfortable with what you are going to do with your phone before you do it.

Default Reversing the Proccess?

I found this one click-method and video tutorials but i understand that this 2.1 update should be coming soon. So if i root my phone and install a custom rom is there anyway to reverse the process? and get back to my original 1.5 so i could update?

You could put a rom based on 2.1 on your hero. I have a g1 and I have 2.1 while any not root g1s are still 1.6. Id say google how to root hero and how to unroot hero and thatt should help

Wait, I did a Google search for Nandroid and it seems as though it requires a rooted phone to use. How are you supposed to use it BEFORE rooting?

I want to root my Samsung Moment too but looking through guides so far has been unhelpful. I can't figure out how to actually do anything. Most posts use a lot of jargon that doesn't make sense to noobs.

Question Rooting and OTA

I have a rooted Moto Droid 2.0.1. Will I be getting the 2.1 via OTA or is OTA disabled once your phone is rooted?
