Default G Voice Questions

I'm coming off a Blackberry for the past 3 years and am loving my new Driod, especially since I can keep my Google contacts separate from my Outlook account at work. My questions are, does the Driod know when to send an SMS out using my G Voice number as apposed to my cell number based on whether the contact comes from my Google account or my Outlook contact group. Also, how do I set my voice mail to go the carriers VM when someone calls my cell number but the GV box when someone calls that number?

Thanks,

i read this yesterday hoping to answer, and can't. I came back hoping someone had answered cause I was curious to. Doesn't look too good---those are complicated functions.

Default i don't think so..

I don't think you can do this..

Regarding the text, the closest you'll get is for your android phone (w/Google Voice installed) to ask you which program you want to use to send the text message. So, you'll have the option of using the "messaging" program, or Google Voice. this option will present itself anytime you begin the process of texting a number. So, if you know where the 'contact' came from (the google contact, or outlook) you could select the right program for texting.

Regarding splitting the voice mail function: I just don't see how that can be done.. I am pretty sure this is not possible.. but maybe an "expert" can shed some light on this..

No. Your GV number is used for SMS if you use the GV app or if you respond/send a text message to a contact in a messaging app (other than the GV app) using the 406 number for the contact. You'll see the 406 number if someone sends an SMS to your GV number and you have SMS forwarding enabled. The text message will come from the 406 number and the contact's name/number (depending on your setup, IIRC) will be prepended to the beginning of each SMS.

If you use a messaging app other than the GV app and send it to the contact using the contact's direct mobile number then the message will come from your cell number and not your GV number instead of your GV number.

Don't set up forwarding from your cell to GV for voicemail. If you have already done this then the "Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone" link (Settings->Phones) on the full GV site will tell you how to reverse this.

If you're familiar with the forwarding codes for your carrier you can just set forwarding to go to your voicemail center.

IMO it's a lot less complicated if you just fully switch to the GV number for everything but that approach doesn't suit everyone's needs/wants.

Here is another GV question. When going with the single number option, will your phone still allow you to use your original number or are can you only use your single GV number from the point forward?

You'll have the option of either number
