Hi I have a question, ATM I'm currently a Iphnone 4 user (worst mistake ever) but one thing about the iphone it's lasted for 2 years for me.. I've read a few comments on other Android phones and read after awhile the phone start to bug, glitch and degrade.
In 2 months i'll be out of my contract and decided to buy a Samsung G S 2 or 3 (not sure yet) I want to know if i'll have to same endurance from my Iphone 4 as I would with the Android phone.
Device(s): Samsung Galaxy SL (I9003), Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (P6200), Samsung Galaxy SIII mini (i8190)

Not really. Have had my Galaxy S for over a year and no signs of lag or degradation. Its more of improper usage. For example, many people use automated task killers thinking it helps save battery, when in fact prolonged usage of such apps for newer versions of Android in fact degrades the system over time, causing increased battery drain and lag and RAM issues. Task killers are useful in specific cases like a rogue app or an app that crashed, but should not be used to manage RAM.
Another thing is that some people tend to compare lower end phones to iPhones. An iPhone 4S will be better than say, a Galaxy W (a mid range phone), but it would be par with a Galaxy SII in terms of features, stability and other aspects.

There is no reason why a phone can't last for 2 years. Saying that Android phones "wear out" or whatever is usually from iTrolls or people that use task killers, etc.
I would however recommend you look at a SIII, not an SII. If you are looking for a phone to last as long as possible I never recommend looking at a phone that was released a year ago, when the newer one in the line is already out.

If you actually compare apples to apples and compare the high end android devices to the iphone the android devices should have no issues keeping up.
Android sometimes gets a bad rep because they base their opinion of the whole android community on their free phone that can barely support it.
I've had my Evo 4g for about a year now and some of the people who got it on launch day 2 years ago and who are eligible for an upgrade aren't using it because their 2 year old device still holds its own.

While I have not had a phone that long to know, my Droid Incredible was going strong one year in, until it got washed, and even then it still ran, albeit at a diminished capacity. I plan on keeping my Nexus at least through this generation of upcoming phones.

That is a very valid point. A lot of people do compare a current generation iPhone to 1-2 year old Android phones that are free on contract.
If comparing a free Android phone it should be compared to a free iPhone (3GS, which really doesn't hold up anymore either).
Despite my phone model being one with a "known fault", & having it repaired, I can see it now lasting two years AT LEAST. I'm not trying to brag, what I mean is this:
More screens are made with Gorilla Glass.
Get a case for it. NOT a screen protector, a case, to keep it away from particles & keys in your pocket
Keep it in a pocket just for your phone (no other items)
Obviously it helps if your phone can handle a few drops (OK, slight brag there). But seriously after years of throwing money away you learn to look after your stuff properly.
Have had my esteem now about a year. This poor phone has been put through the ringer:
Hardware-
It has been upgraded and downgraded through 3 different versions at least 5-6 times.
It has had every ROM/Theme/Kernel flashed to it at least once if not more(combos
I have manipulated numerous internal settings utilizing anycut.
Gorilla Glass/General Durability
It has been dropped down a flight of steps at least 3 times(no not on purpose)
Twice it has fallen out of my pocket glass first onto the cement.
Not sure why "she" has been so good to me but never question right
My kids are sad knowing that I will never give this particular phone to one of them-I stand firm on this.
We have been through too much together

I have no case, no screen, just a dedicated front pants pocket for my Optimus, nothing else in it. One year later, it looks the same, runs the same, actually better, due to my learning of tricks.
Caveat: I originally said eighteen months, because I forgot something: My first and second ones were exchanged for refurbs. The first had incurable dust under the screen and the second went into a coma. But this one, by golly, is a refurbished miracle.

my htc Hero ..3 yrs old.. my daughter is having a great time on it... not activated.
my htc og evo .. 2 yrs old.. looks like the day i got it. no screen protector.. just a simple rubber case. never been replaced or repaired. rooted a few hrs after i got it and has taken everything i threw at it...
people complain about their phone because they want the new one, because the new one does XYZ and x times faster. but the old one still does what it did before, just as well as it did the day they got it.

I have the first generation of Galaxy S phone. It is still working great with no problem. The only minor issue is the battery does not last as long as it used to be. But it is natural and not much we can do about it.
That's why I keep saying that, not all Android phone are made equal. The Samsung Galaxy brand is the best Android phone. I won't buy anything else.
You get a bad one every once in a while, but that is industry wide, not just android. Last year, my friend's iphone 3gs started doing some odd things, like the finish started flaking and the gps thought he was a few hundred miles away from where he actually was.
My Evo 4g has lasted just fine for 2 years, as has my brothers. My sisters HTC hero has lasted just fine for 3 years now (though she's tired of the slow speeds and is looking to upgrade). Just stick with a major brand and you should be fine.
Thank you all for your view points I will ignore them Ifanboys about iphone being a phone that works over android being phones that only last a few months before bugs n glitches.. peace out

I have a 2 yrs old Motorola Backflip that still works as it did the first day I bought it. I have a Motorola Atrix 4G right now and loving it. (Little over a year old now.) These phones can last if they are not abused beyond what they are capable of handling.

It depends. I bought a cheap Samsung Android phone two years ago and it is still in good condition. If you use the phone carefully, there is absolutely no problem.
what is the use for ATK if the "pre loaded" task manager allows you to exit tasks one by one or in bulk?
I have asked that many times, and told that a task manager is vastly different than a task killer ... certainly is spelled different. But the explanation I like most is that carriers threw them in to stop the complaining, not to serve any actual purpose.

I've had my HTC Desire Z for 18 months and it is still running well, hinge and all. My father in law's iPhone 4 had problems within weeks of getting it. After a couple of months, he had to get his replaced. My brother-in-law uses an iPhone (4 I think). One day, his FB status said that he was on his 5th one. He didn't specifically said why he went through so many. I suspect that some, but not all of those replacements were due to it being lost.
No matter what phone you have, most likely it will work fine. There will always be a small chance that you may get a defective one or it happens to break early.
I just picked up the new Droid Razr Maxx only because I had an upgrade available. To be honest I wasn't really excited to leave my Droid X that I have had for 2 years just because it's been THAT good and durable. It's just like an automobile or anything else. You take care of it and it has a much higher chance of lasting you a long, long time.

Like many others here I've also got a 2 year old phone, Samsung Galaxy S with CM7. It's still going great. Keep it in a rubber case, phone still looks almost new. The original battery not lasting quite so long these days, but replacement batteries are readily available and quite cheap. I see no reason for me to change phones at the moment. I could change phones at any time I like, with no mandatory stiff two year contracts.

Vast difference indeed : )
In any case, It does the trick for me, i click "end task" and as far as I can tell, it does.
