Confused Can anyone restore my faith in android?

Ok so Ive had the LG Optimus 3d (2.3.5) for about 12months or so now and upgrade time isnt too far off . Im at a crossroads now, I like the Padfone and an considering that my next move, however I don't think I could handle any more problems with android.

Every week there is another reason I need to stick the dam thing in the computer and sort it out spending god knows how long on youtube/forums looking for vids on how to fix it (gallery being this weeks ).

To stop my rant from running in to a autobiography i will stop there.

Basically, I have read Gingerbread is very buggy so can someone tell me if I stick with android that all is good with ICS? and I can return to a near hassle free life with something that just frigging works

If ICS is buggy does anyone know if Jellybean will have sorted the majority of the issues out?

Im not a religious person but the fact that this LG is still in one piece can only be due to divine intervention but if ICS/JB was just as bad it wont last much longer.

Thanks Rick

I think you need to tell people what your actual problems are, because from what you've said I can't say how much is the phone and how much is specific apps (though in the case of the one you mention I can't help - I decided a long time ago that QuickPic is way better than the stock Gallery app and have removed Gallery from every ROM I've used since then).

I've been running Gingerbread on my phone (HTC) for 18 months now with no problems, so I don't think there's an intrinsic problem with that OS.

I can unequivocally and in good conscience say ... it depends.

There are three factors involved. First is the quality of the hardware. Second is the build of Android and finally is the user and they way they use it. No OS is going to ever be bug free and as the technology advances, there will be a new issue for every one resolved.

That said, I have had very little trouble with my Android phones and don't find myself tweaking and fixing very much at all. I usually run stock for several months just for the stock experience and then I will root and flash to make the phone the device I want. That is both a strength and weakness of Android. As for what Jelly Bean will bring, that is still anybody's guess.

I think/hope it is a one of unfortunate experience with this phone.

The gallery problem (process com.cooliris.media has stopped unexpectedly force close) I have found a solution for on forums and appears to something a few people have had issues with but thank you anyway.

Part of the problem must have been the phone as you say, running specific apps or just for no reason it will crash draining the battery in the process.

At the moment I think i will upgrade to the padfone (depending on cost) and give android another whirl. I got totally fed up with how restricted and boring iOS was and was well and truly pulled in by the what can only be described as amazing apple marketing department.

QuickPic is something I will look at for the future and perhaps when I'm ready i will look in to replacing other stock apps once I have upgraded.

As for now, thank you very much for you comments they are much appreciated.

P.s I installed quick pic and love it, no need to sort the gallery problem out either i can just bin that off thanks Hadron

Not wishing to be patronising, but, did you try hard resetting the phone? Or, did you install GB yourself, & forget to factory reset it beforehand? I only ask because, some remnants can be left over from previous or some glitches may appear because of that.

The only other experience I could replicate of what you said was down to a picture file that the gallery (cooliris...) did not like, causing the error message. I have one or two pics that crash the gallery (cooliris). This didn't happen in the Froyo gallery. If that's the case then I would go with the above suggestions & try another gallery app.

lunatic59 did very much hit the nail on the head. I have had extremely varied experiences with both Gingerbread and ICS depending on the phone. Whilst I am not familiar with your exact product I can say that provided you have good hardware and a lack of poorly developed application then the experience is quite positive with both.

Alas I think you're right. I think much of the probs are down to the rom build rather than phone or app. These are minor niggles & as per this thread I tried Quickpic app & it seems the cooliris media thing is different to what I had in my blur rom, it can't handle some pics regardless of what gallery app I'm using, so it must be what is built in to the rom that's culprit.

But yes the overall experience is good .

Every individual experience with any os will be different. I would suggest you go to a retail store and play with a ics phone or watch couple YouTube videos with jellbean. Watch the Google i/o on jelly bean as well, if your faith have not been restore for what the improvements that's been made, I don't know what to tell you.. Good luck..

I went from Gingerbread on my Xperia Play to ICS on my Galaxy Nexus. I loved ICS right from the get go. I have had few issues with it. I also installed ICS on my OG Galaxy Tab(CM9). I was relatively happy, there were some quirks but they have been resolved.
