Default Turning off apps running in background.

My son has an Eee Pad TF101 and he can turn off apps that have been opened and are running in the background. When you press on the app, there is an option "Remove from list", but I have just bought a Samsung Galaxy 7.7 Tablet and it does not seem to have that option and all the apps that have been open can't be closed fully. So I guess, it is no good for battery. So I am missing something here? Thanks

You don't close apps running in the background, you leave them be. Closing them actually kills more battery because Android will just run it again wasting CPU cycles and batter. Android is Linux based whose memory management is exactly the opposite of Windows: More apps cached in the RAM, less battery consumed and faster opening of apps. Even on the ASUS Eee Pad, the remove from list isn't exactly "closing the background apps", its just removing the app from history and deleting it from cache. Just leave it be.
