Default How do I Use Wi-Fi instead of the network for data

Alright, so I'm going to be getting my first Android phone in about a week now, and I need to know how to make it so I only use Wi-Fi for data usage but still able to use the network for texting and calling.

Just turn on wifi and if there is a wifi signal around, your phone should pick it up. Log into secured wifi with a password, or you can just connect if its not secure.

I had just heard that some people had it switching back onto the network instead. If it makes a difference, the phone is the Samsung Galaxy Stellar.

Provided the phone is connected to wifi that has internet access, it will not use 3G/4G mobile data. However if it goes out of wifi range, then it will use mobile data.

You can ensure it won't use mobile data by going into settings > wireless & network > mobile networks > and un-tick the data enabled box. Which means if there's no wifi, it won't have internet access at all.
