Samsung S3/Droid Razr HD and Macbook Pro

Hi guys,

I am strongly considering purchasing the Samsung S3 or the Droid Razr HD (when it comes out) but I have some questions due to owning an Apple Computer.

How well does the phone itself interface with a Macbook Pro? I'm running OSX 10.6.8.

I am most concerned with how the phone interacts with iTunes as I intend to use the phone as an mp3 player as well. This is my biggest concern.

Secondly, how would the phone interact with iPhoto?

I can't seem to think of any other issues that could arise but would appreciate if anyone could enlighten me about some of the pitfalls of getting the S3 or Razr HD and having an Apple computer and how easy these issues would be to overcome.

Hey there PotentialDroid, glad to have you on the forums

First off might i say i am glad that you are open to the idea of switching to Android and might i try and assist you with what you are asking.

First off if you get a samsung there is a program called Samsung Kies that will provide an ample restore if you backed up anything on iTunes with an iPhone: Kies - Sync Media, Contacts & Calendars Across All Devices | Samsung

Secondly, there are apps like DoubleTwist that will sync from an android to your iTunes and allow you to get all your music from there.

Or you can use Google Music Manager and upload all of your songs from your PC to Google music and from there they will instantly appear on your phone, you can even download them directly on your phone from there by hitting the "Keep on Device" option.

I will look into these two programs. I've read some horror stories about the interfacing with the Macbook and Samsung or Droid but alas I think those people didn't look too much into solving the issue.

My real issue is just mainly with the music and sometimes photos. Everything else I do not really care about.

Hence, I think I can solve this issue. Thanks!

Mainly the horror stories are based on migration. They seem to think that everything would work the same way it did, but not anymore, since Apple does not play well with competitors. They are constantly trying to get you into services that would make it more difficult for you to leave them because of the hassle of a system migration.

Regarding music, Winamp for desktops is able to import all the itunes media and sync it to your device. It can also do so wirelessly if you have Winamp for Android on your phone (you dont have to use it, it just has to be installes with wireless sync enabled).

Ya. That is why I sort of do not like Apple. I am not like those others who thought it was going to be as easy as connecting an iphone to a mac. I assume that a S3 to Mac will be a bit more complicated. However, I am just wondering if the pain is worth it.

For now I think it is. But I would love to hear from someone who has a mac computer and Android phone. Haven't found someone yet.

I do have a Mac and and Android, but TBH I don't do any type of sync - I just copied my iTunes library to the phone's SD card and that's it. So my experience isn't really going to help you (heck, I don't even use the Finder - I prefer the unix command line in a terminal).

Ya, I think I can do without syncing. It really wouldn't bother me that much. Since you have both the Mac and Samsung do you find it that much on an inconvenience? Or is it totally negligible? You're the exact person I want to speak to!

Have you ever had an iphone? I used to have an old iphone 3gs but now am on blackberry. So any upgrade whether Samsung or Droid or iPhone will be better than the blackberry.

Do you have any difficulties whatsoever with the phone as it relates towards the computer?
