Default Android 4.0.4 > 4.1.0 in South Africa?

Hi,

I see that the new version of Android is slowly been pushed to various phones around the world.

But I have yet to hear/see anything about South Africa...

Does anybody know when we will be upgraded, (I am on the MTN network)?

Is there a way of upgrading the phone manually? (After all, why do I need to wait for my service provided to push the update anyway?).

Or is there no real big difference between the two versions for the every day users, and I might as well wait for the update, whenever it might come.

Thanks

FFMG

Welcome to the forums FFMG, honestly i have no idea when it will be pushed out, however the other option is rooting your S3 so it has a ROM that is on Jelly Bean, this is the easiest way other than waiting for a carrier update.

Sorry i couldnt provide more help. Thanks for joining the site though

Hey, Thanks for the welcome and the help.

I rooted the phone fairly easily, (using Odin and a one of the many tutorials around).

I am now trying to upgrade to 4.1.1 but Odin gets stuck on "NAND Write Start!!" for over 10 minutes now.

I don't want to brick my phone, so I guess I will just wait for the update before I make things worse.

hmm i would suggest to factory reset again and do the root again, it took me 4 hours to get my first root right!

So you could just keep trying, it is pretty difficult to brick a phone, but don't be cocky about it because it is possible.

Well, it looks like the download I originally had didn't quite work.
So I downloaded it again, re-ran the update and I now have Android 4.1.1.

Truth be told, I am yet to see a major difference between the two.

... but to be fair I didn't really need to update in the first place

Thanks again
