4G requires the following to get it to work in the UK
1) To be in an area where 4G is supported.. there are currently 10 cities where this works at the moment, so despite all the press and publicity EE barely have a 4G network (even when compared to the launch of 3G in the UK)
2) A phone that is capable of 4G. (not all versions of a phone will have the 4G stuff inside)
3) An EE contract that has 4G support.. a standard EE one won't work. (You can tell if you have a 4G one due to the smaller and much more expensive data allowance
If you don't have 1,2 and 3, then you're out of luck.
Things will change over the next couple of years, but at the moment, 3G is still the best option to be on.
