Default What is a good signal strength range?

What is a good range of numbers for overall signal strength? I've been having a lot of connectivity issues since my area got hit with Hurricane Sandy, and when checking my signal strength I don't even know what I am looking for.

Currently it says I am at -75dBm 65 asu

What does dBm and asu mean? Also, is there an easier, quicker way to check these numbers than to drill down through a bunch of submenus in the settings>about device section?
