Default Toggle between 4G LTE and 3G?

Greetings all,
First of all, this is my first post, and I want to thank you all for taking your time to read this regardless if my issue gets resolved.

I bought my first Android (LG Lucid) and shortly after buying it I realized that I get terrible 4G LTE coverage where I use my phone the most. It works great in other locations, but I just can’t get coverage where I need it the most. But the 3G coverage worked great, but there was no toggle setting within my phone. Through some research I found a couple apps that took care of my problem (Phone info, and LTE onOff) where I could turn on CDMA only and put my phone in 3G coverage.

But Yesterday, I had an Android software update that I downloaded, and now whenever I try to change my settings I get the error “Access to phone Information is prohibited.” I’ve tried talking with my service provider but they were not any help and I’m stuck with a 4G LTE signal that is about worthless to me.

My Android system version is 4.0.4

Any information or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks again.
