Default Backup provision on SD Card

I'm new to the forum but about to purchase a Motorola XT890 and if the funds will stretch, a 32gig SD card.

One of the reasons I'm going for a phone with SD card is to use part of the card for an alternative backup for some of my windows data files. Some of those that I can't afford to loose, and it just gives me further peace of mind having the files in an alternative location.

Now I'm trying to frame my question correctly:

Do I have to go to the extremes of having an extra partition on the card to store this date ?

At the moment the files exist on a Truecrypt volume on a usb key attached to my car keys, but there's no reason why I couldn't just copy the volume to the phone SD card I suppose.
The encrypted volume is now 12.6 gigs, so it's a healthy size to clog up the phone storage, well nearly half of it !

I've seen mention that a 64 gig SD card will work in some phones once it's formatted, but has anyone had success with this ?

With thanks
Nigel

Hi Nigel, and welcome to AF

If you just want another copy on the phone's SD card I can't see why you couldn't just copy the data to the card the same way you would to a usb key (though I don't know what Truecrypt is, apart obviously from some encryption system, so if it has any special requirements please forgive my ignorance).

Why don't you just drop a Truecrypt folder on dropbox? Anyway, Yeah, dropping a Truecrypt folder in the SD card should be fine. Just don't expect the phone to be able to access the contents. I don't know if Android can do that.

Yeah, I'd thought of Dropbox, but syncing a 12 gig file is straight out of the question I'm afraid, I'd still be here waiting the next day<g>.
But dropping the file onto the card sounds ok, and I'm not bothered about the phone accessing the file.
Thanks for the response.
