Default Huawei ascend 312

This phone seems just as well built as my nexus s.
My wife chose it as her new phone and I have a Q.
On the bottom of the phone there is 4 options that do not
light up on her phone, back manage apps google search and up.
Is there a away to highlight these options?

Are you referring to the four touch buttons at the bottom, separate from the screen?

Try Settings > Display > Button Brightness > set it to On or Open, rather than Off or Auto.

AFAICT the Huaweis are very well made phones, quite robust.
