Default Rendering "Contacts" On A PC?

I'm using "Go Contacts" which, I'm guessing, uses the native Android contacts file.

After backing up via MobileGo, I find a "Contacts.contacts" file in the backup directory on my PC.

Rename Contacts.contacts to Contacts.contacts.xml, open it, and it becomes apparent that this is an XML file.

The Question:

Is there some way to render this file on my PC? I'm thinking an application that reads the .XML and throws up a suite of windows that mimic Go Contacts on the Android device.

Where I'm headed with this is a recovery scheme in case the Android device is lost.

I'm afraid to synch with gMail because I managed to hose my contacts a couple of times soon after migrating to the Android device. Can't swear that gMail was the target for those synchs, but it seems likely...

Why don't you just plug the phone in to Kies on your PC? Since you're using phone only contacts anyway. It's gonna show up under the contacts tab on Kies. Maybe its gonna work on MyPhoneExplorer too.

Speaking to the last portion of your post, I've migrated my contacts across almost a dozen Android devices without ever having an issue, maybe you had an incorrect setting?

No argument there, but the results are the same.

If I can figure out a way to back up Contacts to a PC and then restore them to my Android device, I'll do the rational thing and start experimenting with synch to gMail. But I wouldn't do that until I had a recovery protocol in place.

Kies didn't work on my PC with my N7000: wouldn't connect.

But I just gave it another shot and went with the automatic update to v2.5.0.12104_15 and now it seems to have successfully connected over USB.

Thanks for prodding me on that one.

Now I'll start exploring Kies...

I already told you how.

1. Connect your Phone to PC
2. Run Kies.
3. Press Backup

Here's a video. They used an SII and an older version of Kies, but it still works the same.

Here's a screenshot of how contacts on your phone would be viewed on Kies
