Default software update question

First let me preface this by saying I am android guy. I prefer the software. I was wondering why when android releases a software update we have to wait until the carrier decides to release it but when apple releases there update it its available to all carriers immediately? Is it because there are so many types of android phones and each update is different for each phone? I am just curious.

The carriers all put their own UIs and extras on top of Vanilla Android, plus each phone needs its own drivers(supplied by the manufacturers). This all need extensive integration testing to emsure that nothing is broken. Then there's the statutory certifications in some contries (probably different in each case)
So, you're pretty much correct in your suppositions. All of which is why nexus kit always gets updated forst.
