Default Do-it-yourself site???

Hi, I need a simple app built for a business... think mini/condensed web site but available as an app on a smartphone, ideally with features such as push notifications and a gps locator... however I notice all of the do-it-yourself-sites charge a monthly fee whereas I'd prefer to pay everything up front.

Is there really a need for this monthly fee, e.g., are bugs and system compatibility updates really that big an issue, particularly with a simple app such as mine? I'm assuming those are, in fact, the reasons why the do-it-yourself companies require monthly subscriptions?

Thanks so much for your help and feedback!
