Default Rooting Chinese Android Device

I've bought an android device from china, it's basically a htc one x replica. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a way to root an unkown phone? My computer is ubuntu 10.04 and android version 4.1.6.

I'm trying to change the device name so I can play more games and pass compatibility issues.

Any help would be appreciated

Someone posted a similar question regarding these counterfeit phones. You are going to find little to no support from the developer community for these phones.

first thing I do (I often buy these things as toys or for test animals so I don't brick a more expensive gadget) is download and install 'root checker'. you'd be surprised how many are actually rooted out of the box, and only need a SU binary or Superuser app to make it work. this allows root apps but since there is little to no developer support, forget custom ROMs or flashing an alternative recovery.

List of Pre-Rooted tablets as I know:

1. D2 Pads ($79 and up)

2. Emerson and Polaroids (same thing basically, around $65 and higher)

if you are an ICS expert than i'd love to find out how to disable the bloody annoying ANRs, or the prompts saying '[app name] isn't responding, would you like to close it?' first of all I am a patient guy. I don't need dialogs that remind me of Clippy the Office Assistant to tell me what I already know. if my apps run slow, I can wait without the annoying pop-up alert

From experience, buggy and poorly tested Chinese ICS running on low-specced hardware. Probably more of the latter though. My quality ICS Lenovo phone doesn't do this at all, but on the other hand the cheapo Ampe tablet thing I've got does it rather frequently, e.g. "Application xxx is unresponsive, would you.....blah blah".

Probably a bit like running Windows 7 or 8 on a cheap or old "Designed for Windows XP", underspecced PC. Things are sluggish, slow to load, unresponsive etc. Run it on decent hardware, and it's a different story.
