Default Seeder

Saw this over at Droid Life: Reduce Device Lag on Nexus 7 and Others With Seeder Application – Droid Life

So far I'm seeing a significant decrease in lag on my Gnex with no discernable effect on battery life.

The thread at the other forum is now over 200 pages with some very knowledgeable people acknowledging that something real is happening, although it's not entirely clear what.

So, Gnexers, does it work for you?

So far I'm seeing a dramatic decrease in lag on my Gnex and Nexus 7. Still evaluating the impact on battery. Anyone else have any results to share?

Good stuff over there. 70± pages. It's definitely much snappier on both my Gnex and Nexus 7. Curious to get your take on it.

Just seat of the pants "feel." There's been some discussion whether there is a "placebo effect" caused by simply decreasing animation transitions but I think Chrome is definitely faster. Google Maps on the way home today felt faster with new map tiles, screen updates, etc. Google Now launches faster too.

So I flashed this, and at first it seemed a little quicker, but after awhile of playing with it, nothing seems too much quicker. Maybe just placebo? I'm on Xenon 1.5 btw

Okay, just got done reading (or scanning / skimming) all 82 pages of that thread on XDA .

Yeah, don't bother...there's only about 100 useful posts in there...although there are some very savvy folks in there trying to dissect if this is real or placebo.

Of note: OP hasn't posted since 11/21 ??? (very curious).

Here's a few posts that I also found noteworthy:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36234571&postcount=444

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36235699&postcount=462

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36237428&postcount=497

Best post of all ():

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36252798&postcount=740

So, I'm guessing it does have some effect / impact on some people's devices--just not everyone's. There probably is a cost (battery) but no one has adequately measured it yet.

No one has reported any "bad" things happening as a result of using this (or other similar methods described).

Anyway, thanks again for bringing this to our attention. I learned a lot of other interesting things tonight in that thread.

Cheers!

Mods: Maybe this should be in the general forum? Root is required but it's not specific to the Verizon Gnex.

Yeah, that's a good point, LoBatt, but I'm also thinking that since it's not device-specific either, it probably belongs in the Android Lounge...

Hang on while I move us...

Can we keep it in the Gnex general forum? People are reporting different effects on different devices. This could be a discussion of the effect specifically on the Galaxy Nexus.

Well, I think that since it involves root it wouldn't be appropriate to place in the main GNex area.

You could update the OP to say this is a discussion about how this would work specifically for the VZW GNex and it would be okay to move it back to the VZW GNex ATR area...unfortunately, there's no common ATR area for things like this.

Let me know what you think .

Entropy Seed Generator Not All It’s Hacked Up to Be – xda-developers

Its all a placebo.

Speed increases are just caused by it waking your CPU up every minute, which is going to kill your battery life.

Yep...as some feared / surmised last night...("cold fusion" ).

Feel a little bad for the dev (not too bad though since he charged for his app)...don't think this was intended anything other than a nice tweak/find that he had thought he made.

Live and learn, eh?

What is interesting to me are the number of people saying that they have not been able to replicate the improvements they have seen using seeder by scaling/locking the CPU. Nor does there seem to be a significant battery hit.
