Default Samsung galaxy metrix 4g

Hey guys i've got a samsung galaxy metrix 4g and i'm trying to find a way to root it but no one else seems to have a metrix... The rooting apps i've looked at are Z4Root and Universal Androot seem like the safest ones to try. Anyone else out there with a metrix whos rooted or wants to root there phone i'd like someone to bounce ideas off of. I'm running firmware 2.3.6 which some people say works with rooting and some say it bricked their phones.
