Default How to set separate notifications

I've got a Nexus 4 with Jelly Bean and I can't seem to create separate email and SMS notifications.

You should be able to go into your email app and set the notification sounds/vibrations etc. Same with the sms...go into your sms app and set the particular notification sound/vibration etc.
Is that what you mean?

If you are still having issues you could potentially download an app like: Light Flow, there is a free version too, this could create not only different color notifications, but different vibration patterns so you definitely know whether you got an email or a text message.
