Default Privacy

My girlfriend works at a cell phone company. I know all companies store data usage and messaging for at least 6 months by your phones isp adress. My question is can a sales clerk , if they have your phone number just go on the computer at work and see all your text messages? Or does that have to be done by head office? Also can she see exactly which websites ive visited or only data usage? Im sure head office can dig up this stuff but Im wondering if someone working in a cell phone shop can pry into your privacy easily.
Thanks

Lol, sounds like you're worried that your GF is going to use her position at the cell phone company to snoop on your phone. While I don't know what access employees have to that info, I'd suggest that you have two options: 1. Don't do anything with your phone that would piss off your GF. 2. If you can't/won't do that, get another phone with another carrier that she doesn't know about.

Good luck!

Don't know about the US, but in the UK, your girl friend snooping like that would be illegal. The phone company ought to make it very difficult for an employ to do that because if she did, they would face prosecution and fines and she would almost certainly be fired.

Maybe you could bring that up in conversation ..?

This...she would be risking her job if she is able to pull up anything. The bigger question is what are you trying to hide from her

Does anybody have some real knowledge about this? Can she input my number and see exactly which webpages i viewed or actually read my text messages or would someone in a store just be able to see data usage and maybe the amount of and number you sent texts to? For example wouldit show I visited google.com or exactly what i searched for? And how about my cell phone contact names? Please only respond if you have knowledge or facts not guesses or opinions.
Thanks

If they've done things properly, and are complying with any data protection laws for your country, e.g. Data Protection Act 1998 in the UK. Sales assistants MUST NOT have access to any information that they don't need to do their job, like customer's SMSs. Yes I do have knowledge about this. I used to work for BT as a linesman, and their customer database system (CSS, Customer Service System) would ensure that I only had access to customer information that was specific for my job.

Head Office will have a department that has records and access to all SMSs, call logs, web-pages, etc, you've looked at. Which they have to hand over for the purposes of law enforcement, national security, etc. May not have access to contact names, but they certainly know the phone numbers of any calls made and received. Contact names are stored on the phone, or are stored with Google. A carrier shouldn't have access to anything you've stored on Google, because AFAIK that's all encrypted with SSL.

Some of us work or have worked for networks in our countries, so yeah, pretty much.

Possibly, say if she worked in the correct part of IT, otherwise it's highly unlikely.

Yup

She would not have access to that information if she works in a store.

If she did and was caught, it's losing her job (and unlikely to work in the tech industry ever again) at best, at worst it's a fine, maybe some jail time, a criminal record and even less chance of working in any sort of responsible job.
