Default Yellow star ad notification not detected

I've got an ad app but it's not detected by anything and I've checked through my apps in root... And I can't find anything...

sorry for bypassing the link restriction...

I fixed your image links for you. The restriction is just on first posts.

I'm not sure I understand the issue. Is the first screen the yellow Star notification you are referring to?

(welcome to Android Forums, BTW. )

I've seen that yellow star before. Is this a Chinese Android device with a Chinese app store? And I can see the free app it's trying to install from the ad is Chinese. It looks like some kind of dating agency app, they usually are.

Which scanner did you use, you could try Lookout https://www.lookout.com/m/android Alternatively you might have to think back what you recently installed that caused the notification ads.

BTW I don't think this is AirPush. I'm almost certain that this is some Chinese notification ad thing.

Thanks!

Yeah, the issue is the yellow Star icon. Every day it pops up around twice, and displays Chinese text in notifications, clicking it brings me to the install screen.

Interestingly enough I attempted to translate it, and here are the results:
"do not fumble sister chinese kung fu the big boobs singled thai master"
"The atradius speed loader"

Not kidding.... I have no idea... I don't even know how translator could do that

I believe the app that caused it was a .apk of Minecraft Pocket edition
(dont worry I actually bought it right after, was just testing it on my new phone)

It's a Canadian phone and a Canadian app store. I tried lookout ad scanner but that didn't work.

That figures, because some apps try to install via this yellow star thing can be soft porn related.

Where did this Minecraft Pocket Edition APK come from?

Are you sure this "Canadian app store" really is Canadian? Also what brand and model is the phone, and what's this "Canadian app store" called? Because there's a couple of app stores that have nice western sounding names, but they're actually Chinese, e.g. 1Mobile Market. What's happening is most definitely Chinese. I've seen this for myself with Chinese Android devices with apps from Chinese app stores and I'm in China. That's why I recognised it.

It's a legitimate method of push advertising AFAIK, so Lookout and other scanners might not detect it as malware. When I've seen this happen, just removing the offending ad-supported app clears it. If you can't identify which particular app is causing it, like that Minecraft one. Try to remember what you installed recently, and remove them one-by-one until these Chinese notification ads stop

This thread might help you to catch the culprit app ...
Push Advertising
Also you'd try it with the app 'Notification History', free in Play Store.

You've Jelly Bean?

Jelly Bean introduced the feature to indentify the app which created a notification and disable the app's ability for notifications.

Do long press on the advertising's notification, that should pop up an "App Info" button you can press which will tell you which app has created that notification.
Also from there you can conveniently disable the app's ability for notifications, or if you want, uninstall the app.

There's two versions of that, a free one and a paid version on Google Play. The free one has no mention of push advertising at all, and seems to be well regarded in the many reviews. It's function and feature restricted. I'd guess what you had was an unofficial hacked pirated copy, that had the Chinese push advertising added. I'm willing to bet the Canadian app store has its HQ and office in Beijing, and not Toronto or Vancouver.
