Default Thinking of going Android for the first time, quick question - Blinkfeed / Live Tile equivalent ?

Hi guys

I've been an iPhone user from day 1, jailbreaker from as early as it was possible. Gave up buying them at iP5 as imo Apple have stopped caring about pushing their product forward.

So, I went for a Lumia 920 as I loved the idea of Live Tiles.

A number of niggles have stopped me from enjoying the phone as much as I should, so the obvious thing to do is start looking at Android.

So I'm thinking it will be either the Nexus 4 or HTC One.

I really want an equivalent to live tiles, as the idea of just having all the info I choose, there on my homescreen, without needing to go into apps is the thing I like the most.

So email updates, photo updates, facebook updates, traffic updates, fave web page updates etc.

Is HTC One the one to go for ? Blinkfeed seems that it may be the thing I want, though I'm still trying to work out if it provides all the stuff I've mentioned above.

My real question is - is there an app which can give you a "live" homescreen in the same way as WM8 has with it's live tiles ?

I've always been a tinkerer, hence the jailbreaking, so from recent conversations it sounds as though Android on Nexus ought to be the best fit for me, but I freely admit my knowledge of Android is very limited.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Yes. They're called widgets. Live Tiles are a sort of change over widgets in a way that they all look uniformly and have a similar design. Android was the pioneer of this in-your-face-on-the-homescreen-information-without-having-to-open-the-app feature. Any Android phone can do this, with various widgets to choose from. Blinkfeed sort of just unifies the experience in the way HTC envisions it.

Launcher 7 gives you the look and feel of windows 8:

On top of that most apps have there own widgets that display information. There are also other apps that have addition widgets that help to tweak to your style (for example, Facebook has a widget but there are other programs such as Android Pro Widgets that can also display Facebook information but allows you to tweak it to your own style).

You are making a smart move with either phone.

Ah ok, I know widgets. I just wasn't aware that you could get large widgets that would give you email summaries, fb message summaries etc.

As to launcher - yeah I've seen this, in fact I got to see it before wm8 came out, but I don't want to go down that route. If I was going to stick with that look I may aswell hold onto the Lumia, unless there are improvements of course.

Thanks for the info, both!

Widgets are the Android screen objects that can provide you with info similar to live tiles in WP. It depends on the widget and the app developer. Some apps don't have very useful widgets and some do.
