Default Voice Search troubles

Hi there. This is my first post here. I have done a bit of searching for similar problems as mine, but can't seem to get it sorted. I picked up an xperia z couple weeks ago, love it. The problem is voice search was working for a while, but suddenly decided to stop. When I touch the microphone, it wont even give me a chance to say anything before it pipes up with "didn't catch that" message. But the problem also extends to anything that uses the microphone. I found this out when I tried to Soundhound a song and it gave me an error message about the microphone being locked out by another app, same thing with the built in "track id" app. Does anyone have any idea what may be doing this, or is it likely a sony issue. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers.

have you tried a soft reset? basically power the phone off and then power it back on. this should clear out cache and might help out a bit.

also you can try and clear cache in both the voice search and soundhound apps.

did you try clearing cache for search? or if anything clear its data and even force stop it?

and last resort might be to do a factory reset.

What's involved in doing a factory reset?

I have discovered that as soon as i open the internet browser (chrome) that's when it all stops working. If i do a reset (hold power and volume up buttons together) everything works fine until I open chrome. Why would this be??

Try going to Settings > Application Manager, locate Voice Search (and/or Google), select "Force Stop", then "Clear Data". Should fix the issue.

Update...! I'll start with thanks for the help. Tried everyone's suggestions, even the factory reset, all to no avail. I have also discovered this microphone problem also stops me from recording video with the camera. If anyone else has had similar issues, please help. Ready to throw the phone down the toilet, which won't help either cause its waterproof.
